Scorton Creek Trails

As with most places, you never tend to explore your own home town area even when you pass by a place literally thousands of times.  While I had driven down the little road to Scorton Creek in the past a couple of times, I never actually walked the trails that lead out to the old game farm, which is now gone.

I started out at the parking lot which is off Rte 6A a piece.

Weather was absolutely perfect for a nice walk in the woods!

Lots of bird houses.

I walked out to Hoxie Pond.  I was only on this little beach once before when I was very young, with a friend.  I couldn't have been more than 7 or 8.

Headed back to check out the rest of the trails

There are a couple old boarded up buildings.  Not sure if they are open in the summer.

These tracks run past the cranberry bog across from my parents' house.  I used to walk them all the time as a kid.  You can walk all the way to Sandwich and beyond if you are so inclined.

It's funny, when I shot this, I thought my horizon line was level.  Apparently not!

I veered off on the marsh trail and came upon this little bridge.  Only when I turned back to go to my car and saw the trail map did I find out that it links up with Talbot's Point, another recreational/trail area off Old County Road.  I'm going to have to go back later this fall.

Foliage is starting!

Back at the parking area.  That's Rte 6A where the bridge is.  Kids jump off it into the water at high tide in the summer, although I never did it despite growing up very close by.

  1. Looks a delightful area JoJo. One of those bird boxes looks like it has been chewed by squirrels. They used to do that in our yard to get inside. Yup there are signs of leaves turning here now.

    1. There were lots and lots of bird houses, which of course makes sense because it was an old game farm. You probably saw the pic I posted on FB last week asking what happened to the huge building in the photo. I couldn't believe that I couldn't find it but Russell told me it was torn down because of a rat problem, esp. after the game farm closed.

Not sure if you watch Walking Dead but those train tracks reminded me of it.

Anyhoo, you're so right! We tend not to explore the things that are so close to us. I think we take it for granted. I've been here almost ten years and just discovered a new area on the base near us. Gives private access to one of the most popular beaches in our area. Sweet!

    1. I don't watch Walking Dead and since I love RR tracks, that's probably a good thing. lol My friends, many of whom have lived here for 30+ years, tell me that they are learning so much about what there is to do and see from my photos. Everyone always pics exotic locales for their vacations, meanwhile people come from all over to vacation here.

    1. It definitely exceeded my expectations, that's for sure. I've had several friends ask me if I'd gone back there b/c they thought there'd be some great photo ops for me and they were right. Once the foliage gets going, I'll be back!

    1. The birdhouses were a surprise when I saw them although they shouldn't have been, since it was a game farm years ago. I also didn't expect to come upon the tracks either.
