East Sandwich

Had to run a quick errand in East Sandwich so I stopped for some snappies.  This is the smaller part of Hoxie Pond off Old County Road.  Normally those trees would be yellow, red and orange.  

This was pretty much the sum total of the foliage in the area.

I drove a little ways into West Barnstable and still no colourful trees, although The Whipple Tree shop was festively decorated.

Back to town to hit up Sandy Neck Beach real quick

 Not a single piece of glass to be found which is weird cause this is a very popular beach.

Tooling  back down Rte. 6A I stopped at this gallery for a couple pics, although it was closed and I didn't get the name of it.

This was a very, very high tide so I pulled off at Scorton Creek to get this shot of the flooded marshes.

I loooooove this place!  They make beautiful glass and are responsible for building "The Giants" that are put up at various businesses in town at Christmas.  They are lit at night and are a beautiful site to behold.  I think there are over 30 giants now.  I used to go around at the holidays and shoot them but I don't drive at night very well anymore.

October 2016

The fall is passing by so fast just like the rest of the year.  I haven't taken many foliage pictures because it seemed like it lasted a week.  Now the leaves are falling off the trees.  Buzzards Bay continues to disappoint me with the lack of seasonal spirit.  No scarecrows again this year.  Main Street at my end of town is still a disgrace with vacant and crumbling buildings.  Now the park is all torn up to be redone (supposedly better) which means no Christmas tree or decorations down there either.

Did everyone get out to see the beautiful, full Hunters Moon that was also a super moon?  A couple of days before it was completely full, I took the tripod outside and shot 16 pictures in different exposures.  The very last picture was 'the money shot'.  I did like how the moon looks like it's being held up by the tree.

I'm very happy with this shot.  It's so hard to get a good pic of the moon so I'm just going to call this 'good' and not keep trying to get 'the perfect picture' of it.  This one will do nicely.

I took this near where I grew up in E. Sandwich.  In an odd twist of fate, when I was checking my 'on this day' memories, I'd taken similar photos on the same date as these, in 2012.  

Hoxie Pond

This is a couple of houses down from me.  They've done a great job with their Halloween decorations!

It's hard to believe that we are heading full bore into the holidays again.  I wish time would slow down a little!

Scorton Creek Trails

As with most places, you never tend to explore your own home town area even when you pass by a place literally thousands of times.  While I had driven down the little road to Scorton Creek in the past a couple of times, I never actually walked the trails that lead out to the old game farm, which is now gone.

I started out at the parking lot which is off Rte 6A a piece.

Weather was absolutely perfect for a nice walk in the woods!

Lots of bird houses.

I walked out to Hoxie Pond.  I was only on this little beach once before when I was very young, with a friend.  I couldn't have been more than 7 or 8.

Headed back to check out the rest of the trails

There are a couple old boarded up buildings.  Not sure if they are open in the summer.

These tracks run past the cranberry bog across from my parents' house.  I used to walk them all the time as a kid.  You can walk all the way to Sandwich and beyond if you are so inclined.

It's funny, when I shot this, I thought my horizon line was level.  Apparently not!

 I veered off on the marsh trail and came upon this little bridge.  Only when I turned back to go to my car and saw the trail map did I find out that it links up with Talbot's Point, another recreational/trail area off Old County Road.  I'm going to have to go back later this fall.

Foliage is starting!

Back at the parking area.  That's Rte 6A where the bridge is.  Kids jump off it into the water at high tide in the summer, although I never did it despite growing up very close by.
