Centerville, MA

Been meaning to check out the 1856 Country Store down in Centerville, which is a small village in the town of Barnstable.  There has been a store on that site since, well, 1856.

I have a pic from the 1980s with the parties on each bench, so that goes back a long time.

So much candy!

Next door is a huge church.  Should've gotten the name but I didn't.

Those little flags were made by kids on or near Earth Day.

Entrance to the Thrift Shop

Had to check out the old cemetery too, of course.

I would love to know the story behind these girls losing their lives at sea.  The first Caroline P. was only 3 years old when she died in 1834.  The second Caroline P. was born in 1834, and also lost at sea.  Was the first Caroline's mother pregnant and named her baby after the first one that died?  And for her to also to be lost at sea?  I'm going to have to research that.

    1. I've tried googling it but no info. I'd probably have to either do it on Ancestry.com or see if there are any records at town hall.

    1. One of my friends pointed out that it was common to name a new baby after a deceased child, and almost all long distance travel had to be done by sea so it was common to lose people out there. But this particular one is curious.

  3. Hi human, JoJo,

A bit of a mystery about those three girls with the same names. Fascinating photos, as paw usual, my fine human friend.

    Pawsitive wishes,

    3. You should try to come in the fall, it's our best season. Beautiful foliage and 'Cape light'. It's pretty incredible.
