Walking Around Town

Still in search of foliage, I stopped by Bourne Pond to see if there was anything to offer yet. It did not disappoint.

The next pics were taken of our friend Sue's house, here in town. They did a great job with their lawn decorations!

They have a fantastic piece of property!

~~Columbus Day~~ Canadian Thanksgiving was cloudy, but warm enough to be comfortable in shorts and a long sleeved shirt for a walk on the Canal.

It was interesting in that the tide was going out and it was so windy that the beach had shifted quite a bit in just the couple of weeks since I'd last been. There were a lot of seagulls and the Bay was fairly quiet with just tiny waves. I was getting buffeted by blowing sand and I noticed that this particular high tide had deposited a lot of shiny bits of jellyfish, as well as a lot more clam shells than usual and a few small sand dollars. And glass.

When I got to the breakwater, I could hear waves slapping against the rocks on the other side, so I climbed up and was surprised to see white caps on and in the Canal! It reminded me of pictures of the 520 Floating Bridge in Seattle, where it's always calm on the north side of Lake Washington, but rough on the south.

You can see the white caps out there yet the Scusset side remained calm, but very windy.

Well hello gawjuss! It was fairly fresh with the label attached, but I never turn down cobalt blue.

Found these cool operculums. I love the pearly white one best.

Scusset glass scores. I found a lot of unusual rocks and shells too.

These were my finds from my secret spot and a few that I picked up at Monument Beach, the day before I went to Scusset.

I thought I'd made the ultimate red glass score at Mo Beach but alas it's just a red plastic cap that probably popped off a boat when it was being taken in or out of the water, since I found it in a small tidepool near the boat ramp.

Hey it's either get outside and get some exercise beach combing or shop at the craft supply stores!!!

Close Ups!

I was out looking for glass (I know, 'so what else is new?') at my secret spot and Scusset, and this time instead of greedily grabbing the pieces, I tried to take a picture of them on the sand first. Then one of my friends gave me the idea of doing some sand close ups. Since I had already come home, I made copies of the pictures and then cropped them super small to bring out the sand details. I've been seeing a lot of pics online of what sand looks like under a microscope and I was thinking about buying a microscope but now that I can just crop the pics, I think that will work pretty well for now.

I didn't have my zoom lens this day, so I cropped the heck out of the pic of Cleveland Ledge Lighthouse.

Finding a beautiful jewel among the rocks is such a treat.

Also at my secret spot. I was surprised to see this guy on the flower! Hard to believe it's October!

Very interesting bit of shell. I didn't collect it because it was so fragile that I knew it would get crushed between there and home.

The next shots are the cropped pictures of the sand from Scusset Beach. I didn't even notice the bubble when I shot the original, larger picture.

More microscopic jewels

I think this one is my fave with all the tiny shells. These are almost impossible to see with the naked eye. It wasn't till I cropped all of these pictures did I see all of the details.
