Oliver Mill Park

Every now and then a friend of mine will post pictures of her visits to Oliver Mill Park in Middleborough, and I'd been saying, 'I really need to get up there one of these days' and in July,  I finally went.  It's a very small park, yet so picturesque that I ended up shooting close to 80 photos.  Here's Part 1:

I've been told this is chickory.

The stream is a herring run, which is why it's stepped with little waterfalls.

Luna Moths & More Butterflies!

The luna moths finally hatched at Butterflies of Cape Cod so I had to jet up there to check them out.  And on a sunny Saturday morning, that's no easy feat thanks to the scores of tourists flooding into the area.  They've also found our secret backroads thanks to GPS technology. 

These cecropia moths were much smaller a few weeks ago.  They are going to be pretty cool once hatched!

Sugarbush Swallowtail.

These guys are pretty big and I always wanted to see one in real life.  Very leafy, and not quite as green as I thought they'd be.

I love hydrangea.

High Summer

I don't know who did the gardening in this yard before we moved in....could have been the landlord's mom or perhaps the landlord & his wife.  Whoever it was did a fantastic job.  As one flower is dying off, more are blooming. I have lots of yellow right now.

These, I assume, are some kind of black eyed susans as they are mixed in with the yellow ones.

The ice cream truck goes by every day.  I never go out to get any though.

There was another super moon and these were the best pics I could get.  The first is through the trees in the back yard.

Osterville

I had to run an errand to Hyannis and Osterville one day and took a little walk round the main part of the village.  Here's a map to show where Osterville is located (red dot).  It's one of the villages in the town of Barnstable.

Cotacheset was the Native American name of the town.  As the white settlers moved in, the area became famous for oystering, so renamed Oysterville.  Unfortunately a spelling error on a map changed it to Osterville.  

I must have been to Osterville at least one or two times as a kid, but it's not a place that I would go without a reason, although it's still very pretty and largely unchanged.  It's very upscale, elegant, beautiful and quaintly 'olde Cape Cod'.  The Kennedys shop here, where I'm more at home on funky Main Street in Hyannis.

This hibiscus was just awesome.
