Scenes from Sandwich

When I left the dam, I stopped along Grove Street before town center to snap a couple pics of this part of Lower Shawme Pond.

Couldn't resist a few snappies downtown....it's so picturesque.

Newcomb Tavern, where the British Loyalists had their meetings and did their plotting and planning around the time of the American Revolution.  I googled Newcomb Tavern out of curiosity of the history and was surprised to find this link HERE, about just how divided Sandwich was in those days. I knew that the rebels met nearby at Fessenden Tavern, now the Dan'l Webster Inn, but I had no idea just how heated things got in town.  If we were taught this history in school, I have completely forgotten it.

Looks like the Grist Mill got a new waterwheel.

Another herring run

Love this house.

Next I hopped in the car and drove up Rte. 130 out of the downtown area to take some pics of the Firemen's Memorial at the edge of Joint Base Cape Cod.

It's a memorial to 3 firemen that died in the big fire of 1938.

Turned around and headed back through town, and down to the other part of Rte. 130 to take pics of the Freeman Cemetery, which has graves dating to the early and mid 1800s.
