Sheila and I went back out to visit some more old cemeteries, this time in Sandwich and Sagamore. This is the oldest one in town and one of my faves to shoot. It was a very tropical day, with high humidity and rain showers off and on so my lens fogged up when I got out of the car and made for some ethereal pictures.
Shawme Pond during a rare moment of sun.
Across from the cemetery.
Then we went to Sagamore.
Despite always hearing that the early settlers didn't live past 50, I have not found that to be the case. This lady was 94 when she died in 1841.
This reads a bit funny but it's supposed to be "Grieve not that I repose in peace!"
cool pics - remind me of Stephen King books....rather eerie and quaint
ReplyDeleteI really love the old cemeteries here. They are pretty cool.
DeleteI love wondering through old graveyards, and always wonder about the lives of those mentioned there
ReplyDeleteA lot of the names in the old, local cemeteries are those of town founders and still able to be traced to the current generation.
