Sheila & I were really surprised how far back this cemetery went. The newer the stones, the more ornate they were. We both thought this one was super cool!
I can't even imagine how much these ornate stones cost.
Some of the quotes and sayings made us both really teary eyed. Like this one.
I love looking at the mementos that people leave on their loved one's grave.
Here's one of the Sandy Neck Village with a child on the beach.
Guess this guy liked to ski.
This was my absolute favourite stone of the Sandy Neck Village and Light.
A modern carving of a classic old stone design.
Some awesome stones! (For some much loved ones)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the walk among in the graves.
It just makes me so sad that the loved ones will never see the outpouring of love.
Deletelots of thought went into so many stones, and yes - the little trinket mementos are cute. Love the little beach guy under an umbrella. The carvings are fantastic. Neat outing.
ReplyDeleteSome of the cemeteries will remove the items left on graves but others don't mind it at all. The children's graves are usually the most poignant and I try not to take pics of those.
DeleteSome of those stones are incredible. Must have cost a fortune. I will refrain from giving my opinion on what could have been done with the money.
ReplyDeleteWell....the funeral industry is a real racket. You should read Jessica Mitford's 'The American Way of Death'. I feel that they take advantage of the grieving by nudging you into expensive caskets and so forth.
