There is nothing more quintessentially 'Cape Cod' as the clambake. When it's done on a large scale, a giant fire pit is made with wooden pallets, rocks and tons of seaweed, then covered with a giant tarp and the food is steamed. This one was at my sister in law's house so just regular grills and cook stoves were used. There were about 12 lobsters and underneath are clams.
Sadly I can't eat them. I also couldn't have the clam chowder or stuffed quahogs. I was very grateful that there were hotdogs, chips and cheese.

Family photo before I could coax the rest into the pic.
And after they got into the pic.
It was a beautiful day but we've been having a lot of mosquitoes.
Lobstah!
Cawn! (I don't really drop my Rs when I talk like most of the people around here)

ReplyDeleteIt was a nice family gathering. I'm glad I am getting pics of everyone.
DeleteI am green with envy, I can eat lobstah and clams. Lobster being my very favourite. Is the cawn local? Ours isn't ready for another month or so.
ReplyDeleteSorry I haven't been keeping up with your blogs, will get to them, I promise.
I'm not sure where they got the corn to be honest. I don't know that any is ready yet locally. It usually doesn't come in till later in the summer. So I assume the grocery store.
DeleteWow!! it looks like great get together with yummy food. lovely pictures.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for your inspirational words on my recent post. Trust me you can do that, it just need practice, but its good that you do walk, its very important for good health, keep it up.
Thanks Shweta!!
DeleteOmgosh, I wish I could reach thru the screen! That lobster and those clams would be mine! ALL MINE! :D What a fun time!
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the bennies of living in this area and being a townie. Lobsters are caught by people we know and given to friends and family for free and the tourists are shelling out market prices to eat it in a restaurant. Even a lobster roll at a takeout place is $20. Same thing w/ shellfish.
DeleteThat's nuts. I need to move out your way!
DeleteI'll take one, no two, of everything please! This puts the BBQ we're going to this weekend to shame. No lobster or clams. Just hot dogs and hamburgers. Oh, and Zima. Remember Zima?
ReplyDeleteElsie
They still make Zima? lol I tried it once....ew.
