Late Afternoon in Sandwich

Dramatic skies and icy cold winds at the Canal.  Brrrrr!

Late afternoon at Town Neck Beach

I thought all the dark stuff was seaweed till I got up close.  Tens of thousands of dead mussels.  Probably scraped off the rocks by ice.  It was pretty sad.

All clumped together.

Then we went to check out that old abandoned train car, now that all the grass and briars were dead.

There's a fence around it which I couldn't see the last time I was there.

We were chuckling at this crude ladder to get up and over.  Neither of us was about to try it out.

Boardwalk's now officially closed till it can be fixed.  I read that Barnstable County is going to send the minimum security jail inmates out to fix it, so that will be cool.

We saw an otter playing in this creek but he was too fast for me to get a pic.

The marshes looked so cool with the dark sky and western sun.

Over to the mini golf which was closed.  And getting flooded from the high tide.

Then down 6A so I could get this pic from the bridge over the marshes.  Those are the spires of the old Doll Museum (now a private residence) and the First Church of Christ.

Our home town is picturesque no matter what the season!

    1. One of the holes you do have to hit the ball over the creek. lol I always enjoyed that course. It's been there at least 50 years, if not more.

  2. It sure is JoJo and you take excellent pictures of it. How sad about the mussels. Just think of the feasts which were ruined LOL. You probably don't like them but I bet Russell does.

Interested in that old train carriage. Why is it there? What happened to it?

    1. The only info I have on that car is some rich guy was refurbishing it to hook up to trains so he could travel around but his project never got off the ground, or he died or something. It wasn't there the first time I lived here so it's been there since the 90s.

I was surprised the seagulls weren't feasting. The mussels were too small to be harvested yet.

    1. Thanks LJ! Maybe if I was about 30 years younger I'd climb over the fence but not at this age. lol I'd love to get a look inside that train car but I'm sure it's trashed and rotted.

    1. Very deceiving. Even the mild days are too cold at the beach. It's been a fairly good winter though. I don't like snow.

  6. I LOVE your town and I really want to know whats inside that train! Depending on how wobbly that ladder was I may have tried it. That would've been a sight!

    1. Pretty sure this time of year would be your only chance, cause it's totally overgrown starting in spring. If I brought my own ladders I might try it.

It looked like it would so warm and perhaps those would be thunderstorm clouds, but in the mini golf pictures it looked like leftover snow...or it could be their layout. :) I can't wait for it to warm up again. I'm so tired of this cold. So sad to see all those dead mussels. Ugh!

    Have a beachy week!

    1. So far we've had a decent winter without a lot of snow (knock wood) but I am definitely ready for spring.
