Churches and the Delightfully Retro Drive In

While Marsha & Susan browsed some of the shops on Main Street, I walked up the hill real quick to shoot pics of the churches.  This is the United Methodist Church.

Across the street from the church

First Congregational Church.  This is the cool steeple that can be seen from Commercial Street.

Dadgum wires reeeeeeeeeeally bum me out.

This was taken on the way back to Susan's in Eastham.  I don't think I've ever seen low tide last so long...it was about Noon when I took this and it was 10 when we were at Uncle Tim's bridge and it was dead low then too.

She swung into the Wellfleet Drive In because it's a real throw back.  I forgot that it was still in operation, showing movies on weekends.  I only thought they were doing the seasonal flea market.

Gorgeous wisteria

I admit I was really surprised to see all the old speaker poles!

They don't work anymore, but the owners wanted to leave them up, which I think is a brilliant touch.

I hope you enjoyed this little tour of Wellfleet.  Another town checked off the Local Bucket List!

  1. Interesting pictures of churches JoJo. There is a camera ap now which enables you to get rid of things like wires. I wonder if the Methodist Church realise they have a yin yang symbol on their building. I'm surprised nobody has stolen those speakers. Sort of thing people would do.

    1. Thanks! Well I shoot with an SLR, not a phone, so I'd need to invest in photoshop to get rid of the wires. That church probably does realize it because they have a sign above the door about them being an open an affirming church that welcomes everyone. It's nice that no one has tried to steal those speakers; I'd like to think that part of the Cape is immune to the jerks of the world but we all know that's not true. :(

  2. I remember those types of drive-ins, and in the south, we had little air conditioner units that also hung on the individual poles. . .great photo studies here, JoJo. Retro suits me anytime! The architecture is always interesting to see, makes me want to sketch some of them.

    1. There used to be a lot more around here but now Wellfleet is the only one left. The one in Hyannis (closer to where I grew up) was torn down in the 80s to make room for a strip mall. Which was actually OK b/c it went from showing mainstream movies to showing porn.
