Hodge Podge

If the Farmer's Almanac is to be believed, we are in for another horrendous, snowy, cold, miserable winter in the Northeast.  I am doing whatever I can to eek out as much outdoor time while it's still sunny and warm before becoming a prisoner in my house for the winter months.  To that end, I've been spending at least an hour a day reading on the deck.  I brought my sidekicks out with me one afternoon.

I went to Mattapoisett to have lunch with my freshman year college roomie from St. Joe's, Ellen.  We haven't seen each other since 1984 and only recently reconnected via Facebook.  So great to catch up in person and she lives in New Bedford, so not that far at all!  Took some piccies on the main drag and we also went to Ned's Point Lighthouse and a small park in town.

A couple days later, Russell & I went for a walk on Scusset Beach.  It was high tide and the waves were even more choppy than the day I went by myself.  It was really breezy.

Again, I was hoping for a murmuration, but not this time.

High tide plus other people walking around meant only 1 teeny, tiny chip of white beach glass on this trip.

My sweetheart. *swoon*

Two days after that, I had to kill an hour so I went up to Butterflies of Cape Cod.  I thought the weather was perfect but the butterflies were not digging the cool, shady habitat and were reluctant to wake up and fly around.

Om nom nom nom

I am so totally dreading winter.....

  1. I love your photos. The Bowl Mor building is the coolest building. And your pups are so cute I want to hug them.

    1. Thank you Teresa! Rte 6, which stretches from Provincetown on the Cape to Bishop, CA is quaint like the more well known Rte. 66 with great old vintage buildings like Bowl Mor. And my pups would love for you to hug them, esp. Sagan (the German shep).

  2. I used to have three GSDs once upon a time, my favourite dog. Great pix again JoJo. You should embrace the winter rather than dread it. When we used to cross country ski we always found winters way too short.

    1. Thank you!!! Well I don't do winter sports and I just cannot embrace the cold, my disgusting high heating bills or the snow, when my hubby is out driving in it and I'm worried sick about him.

    1. Thanks! I just start plugging names into FB and see what comes up and if parts of their profile are public and they have a picture, I can usually figure out if it's who I am looking for. A lot of people found me too, like Russell (thank god!!!!!!!!!!). I'm not quite ready for winter yet. Today, for example, it was very cold when I got up at 7 but now it's warm.

  4. Lovely photos - the clarity in the last one is amazing :) We had a very mild - albeit dreadfully wet! - winter last year and I must admit I would like a couple of cold snaps, but not continuous for months on end xx

    1. Thank you! I miss the winters of the Pacific NW.....I'll take those rainy, dark days any day over the cold and snow we had last year.

That's one cool - very large! - seahorse! I don't think I could live somewhere that doesn't have seasons to be be honest. If it's perpetually summer, you can't appreciate when Mother Nature changes her clothes....from winter to spring, spring to summer, summer to autumn, autumn to winter - which is really kind of awesome when you think about it.

You're right of course; winter is lovely....when you don't have to go anywhere in it!

  6. Love the waves crashing on the rocks, reminded me of the west coast of Vancouver Island. Such power in water and it makes for nice photos, too..

    1. The pics are deceiving. Pepper was not liking being out there. Sagan was more relaxed but very alert to all noises. We didn't stay outside very long!

  8. I too am spending as much time as I can outside. Every evening I sit and watch the sunset. I'm soaking up the colors so they can warm me in January. Winter is the best time to engage with your muse and turn to creative endeavors.

    1. Well last winter I sat on my fat butt and created for weeks on end. As much as I love that, I was getting cabin fever too! lol It was so hot this past weekend that everyone hit the beach to swim, which is pretty rare for late Sept.
