I recently went to the Edward Gorey House in Yarmouth. I went in 2008 but at that time, I didn't know to look for the various Gashlycrumb Tinies scattered throughout the house.
After you pay your admission to the museum/house (and you can poke through it on your own or join the tour or both), a steal at $8.00, you can pick up a little pencil and sheet of paper with the Tinies that has boxes to check after you've located each one. I was shooting a lot of pics for friends who will probably be unable to ever see the Gorey House in person unless they come visit, so it was hard to search the sheet for each name/clue and shoot the photos.
I managed to find 20 out of 26....technically I found 21, but I forgot to take a photo of the gin bottle for 'Z is for Zillah.' I saw it, but I got distracted and forgot to go back and shoot it. So without further adieu:

B is for Basil, assaulted by bears.
C is for Clara, who wasted away,
D is for Desmond, thrown out of a sleigh.
Missing E is for Ernest who choked on a peach & F is for Fanny sucked dry by a leech.
G is for George, smothered under a rug,
H is for Hector, done in by a thug.
I is for Ida, who drowned in a lake. (I think...those kind of look like buoys you see in lakes)
J is for James, who took lye by mistake.
K is for Kate, who was struck with an axe,
L is for Leo, who swallowed some tacks.
M is for Maude, who was swept out to sea,
N is for Neville, who died of ennui. (He's in the window)
O is for Olive, run through with an awl.
Missing P is for Prue trampled flat in a brawl.
Q is for Quentin, who sank in a mire, (the net)
R is for Rhoda, consumed by a fire (I think).
Missing S for Susan who perished of fits.
T is for Titus, who flew into bits. (I think)
U is for Una, who slipped down a drain, (drain is on floor in front of fire ext.).
V is for Victor, squashed under a train.
Missing W is for Winnie embedded in ice.
X is for Xerxes, devoured by mice.
Y is for Yorick, whose head was knocked in.
Missing Z is for Zillah who drank too much gin.
I guess I need to go back to hunt down the other 6 and confirm if Ida & Rhoda were identified correctly. Big fat bummer! ;-)
I'd never heard of Edward Gorey, thanks for the link, saved me googling! What a cool way of celebrating the man through the Gashlycrumb Tinies :) x

Best tour ever!! You have so much fun in the corner of you world, JoJo!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed that tour of the Gorey House. It was totally new to me. You did an excellent job of sharing it with us. If you go back, show us some of the other collectibles there.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your forays in your corner of the world. Thanks.
I admit that I'm surprised at how much there is to do and see around here. The locals and townies don't really notice it b/c that's what they're used to but I'm seeing it with new eyes b/c I was gone for so long.
ReplyDeleteI just spent a happy few minutes touring the Gorey House site. You know I'd never even heard of the man until I read your blog today - I recognize some of his work, though. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteAnd how cool is it that you faithfully photographed all the Tinies? You continue to impress the heck outta me.
What a fun place to visit!
ReplyDeleteNever heard of that before... very strange - would be good to go near Halloween.
ReplyDeletePatience of a saint! You and the guy who made them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool place!!!
