March Miscellany

As I suspected, I was unable to keep up a daily, finished craft project all month.  I did, however, work on some kind of project every single day, so I did make stuff; it just need to be finished.

Another painted birdhouse done on March 14.

This one, which I call 'Celestial House', took both March 15 & 16 from start to finish.  There was a lot of drying time involved.  I got that large circular pin somewhere in my travels.  I snapped the pin back off it, and was saving it for a special project. This one is definitely not for sale.  I also like that 3D Saturn charm and was saving that as well.

I really, truly cannot get enough of the celestial motif!

The weatherpeople got everyone all whipped up into a frenzy about a 'big storm' for March 21st, with around 8"-10".  I woke up to this....it was barely snowing.  And it was melted by late afternoon too.  I am hoping this was the last gasp.

I'm a sucker for heat activated mugs.

I'm also a sucker for all things Harry Potter.

We went out to dinner w/ my stepson & his g/f for Russell's bday, then they came back to the house for his fave pineapple upside down bundt cake.

Decided to give casting resin another try.  One thing I am learning, paper does not do well in it, despite all the photos I've seen of resin jewelry with pretty paper.  I'm using what I thought was heavy paper but maybe it's not.  I hope that they lighten up after the resin dries.  I put some marbles in the mold on the right.  Also beads and glitter.

Another ongoing project is this Create Your Own Calendar which I've been meaning to do for years.

I wasn't sure just how many years, till I came across this page at the back of the calendar.  I'm going to guess I purchased it in 2006.  So far I have all the pictures processed and mounted on 12 pages.  I still have to put the day numbers for the year too.  I have no stickers for it so it looks like I'll have to use a stencil.  After that it will be a matter of filling in bits and bobs and birthdays.

I'm cranking away on this cross stitch.  I've worked on it every day, for hours at a time, since about March 16 or 17.  If I can keep up that pace, I should have it done by the weekend.

Kind of a crazy month....hoping that winter is over though.  It wasn't near as bad as people were expecting and definitely the best one since 2012.  Looking forward to spring and warmer weather!

  2. You amaze me with how many crafty projects you always have going on at your house! Love the bird house - and we were caught in that so-called storm as my daughter and I were looking at colleges in the Boston area and were trying to stay in front of the storm. But it was beautiful weather - ha!

    1. Thank you so much! My craft table has been really cleaned off with all the projects I've moved off of it in the last few months. But now I'm flailing around trying to find something to do.

  3. Hi Jojo! The birdhouse is so colorful, love it! The Celestial house is one of a kind, really. I loved the charms you used to create it.
Busy month, and it's great. I also made few things, need to showcase in my blog as well. Otherwise I found a square for my future big crochet blanket!

    Have a wonderful weekend ahead!

  5. I like that celestial motif too, JoJo, it's beautiful. It's my fave colour blue and I think that Saturn charm is worth saving. Very well done. I've never made a Bundt pineapple upside down cake and I like the look of that one! I might try that one day soon.

    1. Thank you so much! I always get a little nervous when I do the cake flip but as long as the pan is well greased, it should be fine. I also omitted the cherries because we don't like them.

  7. I love both birdhouses. Great job on each. I keep seeing a heat activated mug on Facebook for zombies that I want to get Devin but I'm not sure it'll work...maybe I'll give it try since yours worked...

    1. You want them? Cause seriously, I do crafts just to try stuff out but I don't have any room to store the finished projects. Oh those heat mugs work really well, you should get the zombie one. I have a TARDIS one that disappears from a London street on one side and reappears in space on the other. I had a few heat mugs in the 90s too.

  8. Love your stuff! You're so creative!
I've done a little bit of resin stuff. One tip that worked for me when I was casting little photos of my kids inside resin: cover the paper with clear packing tape. Front and back. Basically seal it in packing tape before casting in resin. I have a locket of my daughter I cast probably 8 years ago this way, and it still looks great. Good luck!

    1. Thanks Dawn! I asked on the FB resin crafts page I belong to and they also advised the clear packing tape. I wish I'd thought of it at the time. My results were mixed though...some pieces came out great and the others, not so much.

  9. I'm not surprised you're keeping the blue bird feeder, it's gorgeous. You've had a good run of creating things, you've done a bit of everything. Groovy stitching and cooking. In awe of your anow, you might think I'm mad saying that. lol. It's autumn here and today it is 33C!!! Where is all the cool weather? lol
    Cheers, Anita.
