Day Trip to Wellfleet: Uncle Tim's Bridge

Badly behind on my planned day trips this spring!  However, I finally managed to make time to head up to Wellfleet.  Marsha & Susan came with me and we had a great time and a lot of laughs.  It was just absolutely perfect out.

This little lighthouse is near Susan's house in Eastham.

Wellfleet is the next town up from her, and 2 towns below Provincetown.

First place we started was at Uncle Tim's Bridge.

The tide was dead low and so the air was filled with the smell of the marshes.

The parking area for the bridge was a little ways down the road.

Loved this place!

So many shells and crabs on the mud!

We hung over the rails and watched all the crabs run around.  Some of the crabs have one claw bigger than the other and those are called fiddler crabs.

We were going to walk around the path that encircles the island, but some weird guy came up to us and was attempting to flirt...he was a little odd, probably harmless, but it made us so uncomfortable that we let him go ahead of us, we turned around and went back.  I'm sure the three of us could've fought him off but we didn't want to take that chance.

Here's an aerial map.  The island kinda looks like a geoduck clam.  (google it)

  1. oh, oh, oh. I want a lighthouse in my yard. Yes it would look out of place in Missouri, but when have I ever cared what others think?

Love this day trip you took.

    1. Thank you! I'm sure you can find one! Lots of home and garden shops sell wooden lighthouses that you can paint. Although....I did see them on the west coast and I see them here. Not sure about landlocked states, if they'd be available.

  2. Nicely captured, JoJo. Uncle Tim has a bridge! I'm jealous, I want my own bridge! :)

I'm a harmless old flirt and no, that wasn't me!

    1. Thanks Kathy! I am running out of 'one-hour one-way' trips though. The local bucket list items left to do are places that require way more travel time, and I just can't be away from home too long with an elderly dog that needs to go out frequently. I think Newport, RI is my last 'one hour one way' day trip.

  5. Who, I wondered, was Uncle Tim? Glad you girls didn't take a chance with the odd guy. Great pix as usual. Love watching fiddlers running around.

    1. Thank you! Hmm...maybe I should try to find info on who he is or was. It was probably on the sign but we didn't stop to examine it. Yeah that guy was either on something or just 'out there', but we weren't comfortable continuing our walk with him out there.
