Mt. Rainier and Lenticular Clouds - Dec. 2008 copyright: JMM

July 22, 2011

Where to begin?

I shot a ton of photos on the trip across the country.  Hundreds of them, and mostly in the western states.  By the time we exited Ohio, the scenery became pretty bland, so my photography tapered off.  In addition, my camera sensor appears to have gotten coated with debris yet again (after having it cleaned in February), so I ended up shooting a lot of pictures upside down so that the specks wouldn't show up like they do in many of the photos with blue sky.  I did what I could to fix and crop those pictures.  But the problem is choosing what photos to upload since so many of them came out great and I'm eager to share the magnificence that is America. Those of you who are also my Facebook friends will be able to view the entire set that I uploaded into 3 volumes.  I'll try my best not to inundate my blog readers with too many of them.  So without further adieu, I give you:

Leaving Washington State on June 26th, 2011:

My car in front of the Extended Stay America hotel in Tukwila, Washington.

You can't get lost when you are traveling from WA to MA because I-90 starts in Seattle and ends at Logan Airport.

Mount Si in North Bend, WA (Si = "sigh").  It was used in the opening of that old  TV show "Twin Peaks".

Cascade Mountains

Cascades and Lake Ketchelus at Snoqualmie Summit.

North Cascades

Mt. Rainier as seen from Eastern Washington.

One last look at The Mountain.  Goodbye Tahoma.  I will miss you but you'll always be in my heart.

Windfarms

Columbia River, Vantage, WA

Crossing the Columbia River

Roll On, Columbia, Roll On Woody Guthrie

Taken from vista point off the highway

The Vantage, WA Horse Sculpture

I had to stop and take a few photos in the town of George.  Yes, that's right, there's actually a George, Washington.

Eastern Washington is the complete opposite of Western Washington.

Approaching the city of Spokane (spo-CAN). This part of I-90 reminded me of the Sierra Nevada region of California, without the mountains.

Spokane is a very nondescript and not terribly exciting city from the highway, although I hear it really is a nice place.

Almost to the Idaho line!

  6. These are a lovely start to your cross country trip, which I am jealous of BTW! I agree, the Spokane area does look like the Sierra Nevada area, with no mountains ;)
