Hangin' With My Girls

As mentioned in a couple of prior posts, Mary was in town from Idaho in mid-August, so I took her to see the nature trails at The Giving Tree Gallery in East Sandwich, as it's new since she left town many years ago.

We had a quick lunch at Marshland Restaurant, then hooked up with Marsha & Susan at Dune 1, Town Neck Beach.  I've never seen the shadow of a contrail on the sky before.

The water was quite chilly.  It was high tide.

Dune 1.  Our friends Sharon (not my cousin), Suzie and Cherie were there too.  It was a very relaxing afternoon.  Those guys were all out in the sun but I used my rainbow umbrella to keep the sun off me and it was very comfortable, esp. with the nice breeze.

Unfortunately the erosion gets worse with each new storm.

I found one super nice piece of beach glass.

More Salem & Surprises!

I wanted every one of them!  Alas, I didn't buy any.

This was easily my fave gift shop.  I only got a shot glass and some postcards.  And 2 fridge magnets.

But when I do go back, I'm getting this one!

More wooden buildings in this part of town.

We were disappointed that the House of the Seven Gables was fenced all the way around it.  You had to pay to access the grounds and house and we just didn't have the time.   The oldest part of the house dates to 1667 and Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote a book of the same name.  I have never read it but it sounds intriguing.

Salem Common.  We thought this was where the witches were hung, but as it turns out and which I found out later, there is a place called Gallows Hill, and we didn't see that when we were there because it's not located in this part of town.

We had a lovely day together, although I had to be on the road by 1:45 to get back through Boston as quickly as possible.  We exchanged some gifties in the parking garage! I gave them some Cape Coddy things for them and their 2 kids, and they gave me:

A Canada puzzle, chocolate Toonie (which I can't bring myself to eat!), stickers, a mug, a smiley rock painted by their daughter Amelia....

Moriah had asked me if there was anything specific I wanted, and I told her how much I regretted not getting an Inukshuk in all the times I visited Vancouver Island.  She looked around and couldn't find one that she liked, so she & the kids selected stones from the beach at St. Martin's, New Brunswick, and made me one!!!  I love it and it's WAY better than a store bought one!

And finally, the most awesome gingerale I've ever had.  I believe she said it's only available in the Maritimes and it's bottled in Bruce's hometown.

A great day indeed!!
