More skulls!

So many people were dressed up!  We saw a Frankenstein that was elaborately done, Chewbacca, this Minion and a whole host of others.  And just regular people showed up in cosplay as well.  By this time of the day, 2 pm, the city was gridlocked with traffic and it was a mob scene.

This is the Ropes Mansion and it was used as Allison's house in Hocus Pocus.

More Salem!

This person went all out to decorate their little courtyard off the street!

These legs flopped around and stuff.  It was pretty funny.

These cool stick sculptures were made by Patrick Dougherty.  I saw an exhibit of his in Tacoma many years ago.  It takes weeks of painstaking work by volunteers to assemble them.

Salem Common

Wanderings, Lunch and Candy

It was getting to be lunchtime and we were hungry, so we started wandering to the other side of town, where Sheila told me there was a really awesome candy store.  I am just so glad we went to Salem this month because I was just blown away at all the statues and stuff.

Russell finds it odd that I (some of my friends and his daughter) are interested in macabre, creepy, skull/skeleton things and cemeteries.  While I am terrified of scary movies, this stuff doesn't bother me at all.  So needless to say, he was more than happy to stay home and happy I had a friend to go up there with!

We did stop in a gift shop where we both picked up some cute things.  They had a whole wall of skull things for sale.  It was so funny when I showed Russell this picture after I got home.  He literally jumped a mile in his chair and turned away saying, 'get that away from me!'  

This was funny.

We got to this block and could smell delicious food and decided to go have a meal.  I loved how they painted the windows!  It's the Witch's Brew Cafe' and it was packed inside.  

I had an incredible cheeseburger and Sheila had a tuna melt that looked delicious too.

Next stop was Ye Olde Pepper Company for candy.  It's the oldest candy company in the country, started in 1806.

It was jam packed inside because it's super tiny.  But they sell all the old candies.  Original pixy stix, cinnamon red hots, tons and tons of chocolate candies that are made right there.

Too bad I've never liked it.  I did, however, get the most amazing caramel corn I have ever had in my life, pixie stix and cinnamon hearts.  

This whole 'Lobster Dinner' is made of candy.  Including the lobster.
