Dramatic Skies

Ma Nature put on another great show for us in September!   This was a tiny sliver of rainbow showing through the trees.  It did not continue up in the sky at all...it really was just this piece.

Have I mentioned how much I love a Maxfield Parrish sky?

These were clouds to the east.  Amazing!!

Above my house.

If you want to see a rare phenomena called  Cloud Irridescence, look for sunsets with conditions like these and that's your best chance.

They were popping up all over.

Maxfield Parrish Sky

Not surprisingly, one of my fave painters is American artist Maxfield Parrish.  Fellow fans of his art know exactly what you mean if you say, "The sky was very Maxfield Parrish tonight".  One evening in early October, I happened to go into the kitchen and saw it right above my house.  I dashed outside with my camera, leaving the pasta to come dangerously close to boiling over on the stove.  What I won't do for a good shot.

I never even noticed that these trees have already lost their leaves.

A few minutes later, the setting sun turned them pink.  It was stunning.  I could have shot WAY more photos but it was fleeting and I wanted to watch the clouds changing shape and colour in front of my eyes rather than through the lens.

At first I was disappointed that the plants were off center in this picture, but the more I look at it, the better I like it that way.
