Our Christmas

This month...and year....has flown by and now we're on the other side of Christmas already.  December was another struggle with more doctor appointments and tests, my mom's house falling apart and a death in my husband's family.  Still, I managed to get the house decorated somewhat (but not all-out like usual), bake holiday cookies and cranberry bread, and put together this driftwood and shell tree.  To anchor the tree inside the vase full of shells, I mixed & poured the last of the resin inside and then emptied about a half tube of E6000 glue around the 'trunk' and shells.

My car turned to 150,000 miles, almost exactly 5 years since it turned 100,000.

I got Sagan a new Christmas bunny.  The squeakers were dead within a day or so.

The stuff I put out this year.

The miniture candy tray project I did last winter.

I can honestly say that of all the crafts I make, Christmas ones are my favourite.  I'm always trying to perfectly capture nostalgia.  At least the things that make me feel that way.

This is the prettiest star I've ever seen.  It's close to 70 years old.

We had the kids over on Christmas Day for lunch and munchies.  I've been wanting to make this veggie owl I saw on Pinterest.  It came out OK.

The weather started off raining, then sleet.

Then a rather violent snow and wind squall that wreaked havoc in the region in a short time.  Trees down, thousands without power and a big lightpole on the Sagamore Bridge blew over across all lanes.  Luckily no one was hurt.  The sun was out by noon!

I really enjoy all the prep work for Christmas Day.

We had a ton of food.  This is just the munchies.  There were also chicken wings in the crockpot and deli platters I made.

Icicles formed so fast from the earlier weather.

Our kids.

He was so excited to have a dieting 'cheat day'.

Christmas pets for Sagie.

These guys.  Best. Gifts. Ever.

Val gave me this beautiful heartbeat necklace which is so appropriate for this year.  I wore it today to his echocardiogram appointment!  Back in September before the surgery, I refused to let myself think about this Christmas.  The thought of possibly facing it alone as a widow was just too overwhelming and it took a lot of sheer will to shut that out of my brain.

It was a great afternoon of food, laughs and great company! I hope all of you had a great day too!
