After we left Scraggy Neck, we drove a short distance to check out the stone bridge that leads to Amrita Island. There is a gorgeous mausoleum on the island but I'm not sure how to access it without crossing someone's private property. And the homes here are old mansions and the families from old money. We didn't want to take the chance!
Amrita Island has a lovely history, found HERE. One of my friends was married at the 'Love is Eternal' mausoleum in 1990 because her husband's family owned one of the mansions at the time.
I never heard of, or saw any pictures, of this place until the above-linked article circulated on Facebook last week.
As we were walking back to the car, Russell spied this Kindness Rock Project rock! I was so excited to find one!!!
We drove onto the island to check it out but there were no good places to park and A LOT of video surveillance cameras set up. Isn't this place AMAZING? The mausoleum is located in the front yard of this mansion, and even though all the shades are down and it appears to be unoccupied, we didn't dare park and get out!
I am hoping to go back later this year and try and get permission to take pics of the mausoleum.
