Hot n Hazy, and Just Plain HOT!

This summer hasn't been near as nice as last year which could not have been more perfect.  But it also hasn't been oppressively miserable like 2012 and 2013 either.  When the humidity is pegged, the only place to get any kind of relief is down by the water.  My cousin was in town and we met up for breakfast, then headed down to the Sandwich Marina.

I don't remember the water being this clear when I was a kid.

I would love to own this one!

The Virginia Marie, a well known lobster/fishing boat in this area.

By the end of that week, the humidity had gone down significantly, but it was still extremely hot out. My outdoor thermometer showed 98 in my yard!  But by the end of the day, the breeze kicked up so I went for a late afternoon walk around the neighbourhood and into town.  This tree is in my yard and blooms once in the spring and again in the middle of summer. I've never seen a flowering tree do that.

Irish American Pirates must live here.

The breeze at the Canal was so delicious that I wish I'd brought a chair.  I hated to leave to go home.

I love these silverback leaf trees.  Not sure if that's what they are called, but they are very striking on a breezy day.

It's already August and I haven't done hardly any of the day trips I'd planned out this spring, and now the summer is rapidly drawing to a close.

  1. Gorgeous pictures as usual. All the fishing boats make me homesick for the Carolinas or even for the various harbours in which I have lived. I always love your water pictures and so envy you where you live. Not that I could do the walking you do. What an eyesore those old cars are.

    1. Thank you Jo! I love a working harbour and port. It's great to be surrounded by water. As much as I loved Washington, Puget Sound was a poor substitute for the actual coast which was a 4 hour drive from where I lived.

  2. Hi JoJo. I saw your comment on another blog and thought I'd pop on over and say hi. You take beautiful pictures. I also love being be the water when it's hot outside which is funny since I never learned to swim. I just listen to the sounds around me and gaze out at the water and clouds. By the way, I love your header. It's absolutely stunning. I've never seen clouds like that before.

I always enjoy finding new friends to visit and it was very nice to 'meet' you... :)

    1. Hi Dee! Thank you so much for your kind words and for stopping by! The clouds in the header pic are lenticular and are seen over big mountains like Rainier and usually mean bad weather is coming. A few days after I took that picture it started snowing. I was out of work for 2 weeks because of the weather.

  3. beautiful summer, breezy photos. I always looked forward to summer when I was a kid.I Ioved the warm days with that coastal breeze. But I can honestly say that I look forward to Sept living on the East coast as the summer heat (and humidity) just makes me melt! I long for a little Oregon fog this time of year

    1. Thank you!! I don't remember being as bothered by the heat/humidity when I was a kid, but I also didn't have to work and had access to my aunt's pool and plenty of beaches and ponds too. Usually I long for Washington State summers but not this year....they've had a bad one. I'm not quite ready for fall and definitely not for winter. I'm hoping that the El Nino out west will mean less snow for us.

  4. Beautiful places to visit and you capture them beautifully. I think being by the water makes things feel better.

It's super hot here too. After a couple of months of torrential rains, we get a steamy hot summer. Oh well. We do know that this will change. :)

    1. Thanks! We have a nice reprieve from it today. Right now it's cool and cloudy which is fine by me. Although the weather this summer has really screwed up my day trip plans.
