Because Blogger Made Me Do This

I got the following message on my Blogger Dashboard in the Overview section, and apparently I am, and other bloggers are, being forced to let people know about cookies.  I have no idea what it means, but consider yourselves informed.  If they want to put this disclaimer on my blog that's fine but the part about 'you are responsible....' is bullshit.  Or what? They will delete my blog?  Why does the EU even give a shit about cookies on blogs?  How does that affect anyone?  I didn't enable anything that allows cookies.  And I have to obtain consent?  WTF?  Screw you EU.  Seriously.

European Union laws require you to give European Union visitors information about cookies used on your blog. In many cases, these laws also require you to obtain consent.

As a courtesy, we have added a notice on your blog to explain Google's use of certain Blogger and Google cookies, including use of Google Analytics and AdSense cookies.

You are responsible for confirming this notice actually works for your blog, and that it displays. If you employ other cookies, for example by adding third party features, this notice may not work for you. Learn more about this notice and your responsibilities.

There.  Happy now, Blogger?

  1. But, as I said JoJo, I have never seen this message. I don't want to either thank you. I'm not sure it isn't spam.

    1. Well it was on my Blogger thing in 'overview', there was a megaphone icon and when I clicked on that, this message came up.

  2. Google is considered a big time villain in much of Europe, being embroiled in everything from antitrust to right-to-be-forgotten suits. I'm sure this has something to do with all that drama. Good luck!

    1. I have a lot of friends who hate Google as a search engine and my computer guy hates it that I use Chrome as my browser. I haven't had any issues with them at all.

  3. JoJo, I've seen it too when I log into Blogger. Have no idea what the heck they're talking about nor exactly how I'm supposed confirm that their disclaimer is actually working on my blog. I mean, if Google Blogger is placing this disclaimer on my blog then they're the ones that should check and verify that it is working.

    1. That's exactly how I feel. They want it, the EU demands it, so put it on the blogs. Don't make ME do it! I don't mess around with that kind of stuff! I tried to edit my header once and screwed everything up. I'm not doing this disclaimer thing, beyond what I did above.

  4. I saw that too. All I did was check to make sure that if I logged in under my UK url that the message is visible and it is. No worries. :)

    1. There is a UK url? I didn't even know that. How do you log in? Same password? Or would I replace the .com with .uk?

  5. I saw something similar, JoJo, but since they said they had put a notice on my blog, I have taken no action. I have nothing on my blog that gathers info about visitors nor do I have adsense. I think this is just a general message as a CYA methodology. Unless they give me specific steps, I don't intend to start searching for how to do this. The Google overlord needs to be more specific. I agree with your reaction. . .

    1. I don't see any message on my blog at all, that's why I did this post. I will have to look at your blog to see if it's on there. I mean unless I can't see it but only my Euro visitors can. What I object to is making it my responsibility that it works.
