The Freedom Trail to Quincy Market

I'd never noticed the incredible architecture the first time I lived here!

King's Chapel

The Freedom Trail is easily followed throughout downtown.  You can go all the way to Charlestown, about a 4 mile trip.

Old City Hall, in use till 1969.

Republican

Democrat donkey

Irish Famine Memorial

I would love to know the deal with that necklace and if it's not part of the memorial, then I'm surprised it hasn't been stolen.

Rather unfortunate pigeon placement.....

Old South Meeting House

I love the old buildings with new businesses.

Customs House Tower.  It's a Marriott now and apparently there's an observation deck.  I'm going to have to go up there next time.

The back of Faneuil Hall (pronounced:  FAN-you well.)

Sam Adams

Very large statue of Mayor Kevin White, who was mayor from 1969-1984!

Quincy Market, full of shops, eateries, push carts and all kinds of great stuff!

Isn't this cool?

There are tons of restaurants at Quincy Market and we were starving so we just picked this place.  Were we in for a surprise.

This place hires obnoxious staff on purpose to harass the customers.  They tie bibs around your neck and they also make paper hats for everyone with insults written on them.

Our server accosting Cheryl.  He was truly a sarcastic dick but that's OK because I was sarcastic back to him and I probably flipped him off at least 4 times.  We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the antics of the staff as they interacted with the customers.  Like the girls that wanted orange slices for their drinks and the bartender throwing them across the restaurant at the girls.

My server called me Grandma.  That was one of the times I flipped him off.  He wrote this on my hat.

Another shot of Faneuil Hall.

    1. Thanks! yes there really is. I am so excited to go back up there this spring and hit my old stomping ground in the Back Bay. I totally didn't appreciate it when I lived there. I was so wrapped up in my friends, classes, my boyfriend and socializing.

  2. Isn't it a pity. Bit the same when I lived in London, I always said I saw more on school trips from the country than I ever saw when I lived there. You have brought back lots of memories of my time in Boston which was a looong time ago. Yes, that necklace is interesting, I don't think it can have been part of the statue, if they were part of the potato famine she wouldn't have had such jewellery. I loved the statue of the Mayor but couldn't figure out how it was balanced there. Thanks for sharing. Oh, and glad you had a fun lunch.

    1. Thanks! I'm surprised that necklace hasn't been stolen to be honest. There are signs around the memorial that asks people to be respectful and not feed the pigeons either. Maybe people think it's part of the memorial.

  3. Love the architecture, great photos. Wouldn't like the insult banter restaurant, I think that's American humor of a sort. . .

    1. Well when we sat down our waiter prefaced the experience by telling us that they are a theme restaurant, they are called Dick's because they are dicks and if we don't like it, there's the door. I was amused and decided to stay and Cheryl seemed to enjoy the novelty of it. I mean there's a reason we're called Massholes. lol But it's a chain with about 12 or 15 locations all over the USA and they act like that at all of them. There's a fancy'ish restaurant in Boston called Durgin Park and they also hire staff that's gruff.

  4. See, I'd've run a mile from Dicks Last Resort (I think I'm getting old) but good for you joining in with the fun. Some stunning architecture you photographed there too.

    1. I asked him if I could be a jerk right back to him and he seemed a little taken aback but recovered quickly. That's why I didn't feel bad being sarcastic back to him. lol

  7. Thanks for another great tour - loved the statues of the potato famine families - it's because of that historical event that I live in Canada (our ancestors fled Ireland because of it). Doubt very much that necklace belongs and am surprised the city hasn't removed it!

    1. Thanks! I didn't know that your family came to Canada as a result of the famine. That's cool you can trace your geneology that far back.
