Thanksgiving: The Forgotten Holiday

Well not really forgotten....but it sure seems that way when the Christmas stuff starts encroaching in the stores by mid-October and the TV commercials start full bore on November 1st.  I broke out my handful of Thanksgiving decorations on the 2nd.  I wish there were more in shops but it's hard to find them.  It's my fave holiday, since becoming an adult, I've come to like it better than Christmas.

I'm crazy about these paper honeycomb decorations.  Reminds me of the 70s.

  1. Maybe because of the association with your birthday. I have always liked September as a month because it's my birth month. Fun decorations.

    1. Yes, that's one of the reasons I love Thanksgiving. But we always got several days off from school; Usually a 4-5 day weekend. Plus the parades, and back in the 70s and 80s, Black Friday wasn't the insanity it is now so it was fun to hit the Mall that weekend, plus all the leftover food! I always thought it was really cruel to make people go back to work the day after Christmas (as we don't observe Boxing Day). Most people have the day after Thanksgiving off.

  2. I am with you. I want to enjoy Thanksgiving before Christmas is forced down my throat. I love Christmas, but I love it at Christmas time...not during October when we are thinking about Halloween or during November when we are thinking about celebrating Thanksgiving. ♥

    1. I would love to return to the 70s when Christmas was kicked off by the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, which features Santa at the very end. None of this decorations in the stores before Halloween nonsense, and even worse, some cable stations doing 'Christmas in July'. No. Just no.
