Mo' Beach

I went beachcombing at my secret spot and passed through the small village of Monument Beach.  I've been through it dozens of times but never stopped to take pictures till I was on my way back from 'the spot'.  There is a small beach and marina and a teensy town.

Went for a quick walk on the beach.  Some glass, but mostly fresh.

I loved this conch shell but it was covered with living marine life so I didn't take it home with me.

This leads to a private island

This is the cutest idea! A little 'library' where you can borrow a book to read whilst sunning yourself on the sand!

Then I stopped in town for a bit.  This mural is fading but really cute.

Fall colours are gorgeous!

Then I stopped at The Lobster Trap which is a restaurant, seafood market and wholesaler, and where my hubby picks up a tractor trailer's worth of lobsters to take to upstate NY each week.  There is such a small parking lot and yet he turns that 18-wheeled rig around and backs into those bays.

The Trap is right on this scenic little waterway.

And across the street, you can just see the top of the Bourne Bridge above the trees in the center.

On the way back home, I stopped at this little cemetery which is between Mashnee Island and Monument Beach.

A few stones are from the mid 1900s but most of them were quite old.

Love the old headstone designs.

  1. Interesting little town - love your pix as usual JoJo. Where does hubby deliver the lobsters? I seem to recall you don't like lobster, I, on the other hand, would sell my soul for one.

    1. Thank you! I'm allergic to lobster and shellfish, unfortunately. I developed the allergy while living in San Francisco and eating a lot of prawns. :( Russell delivers to upstate NY to a place called Price Choppers. Every now and then when he has an extra trip out there...a round trip where he's coming right home....he will ask for and receive a few to take back with him. He will usually cook one for himself and give the others away, which is a gesture always very much appreciated by the giftees.

  2. Monument Beach looks like a wonderful place to visit. Surrounded by beautiful scenery of water and woodlands and boasting a small village filled with charm. The books at the beach is a niffty idea but just wonder if the sun and humidity wouldn't cause the books to deteriorate?

Believe it or not I have a 50 year old daughter whose a trucker and drives 18 wheelers. She's been driving big rigs, hauling stuff across the country, since she was in her early 20s. To be honest I don't know how she does it as driving something that big would make me a nervous wreck. But Sheri always had the spirit of a gypsy in her so she enjoys being on the road.

    1. There is no way you are old enough to have a daughter that's my age!!!! I thought you were younger than me! I am very grateful that the hubster only drives 5 days a week. I don't think I could cope not having him home at least a couple of days each week. I miss him terribly when he's gone.

I never thought of the heat/humidity factor for those books. They seem to be pretty safe inside that little cubby

  5. I love the library idea. I'm also impressed by the 18th century lady who lived to 92!

    1. I marvel at the people that lived to be very old, in those days, too. And there really are quite a few. The average age of death appears to be mid 60s to mid 70s but you also see old timers as well.

Wow. The colors are amazing. We don't get as much fall coloring. Hubby said it was because we don't have as many maples around here. But, when we drive a few miles inland, gorgeous! I love the book idea. I wonder if that would work on the beach we go to. I bet it would!

    1. One of my neighbours had an amazing maple tree but they cut it down this summer. I'm so bummed. Our colours are going by now and we are getting a rainstorm for the rest of the week so I suspect the leaves will come down in droves. I noticed another honour library just went up in our local park. Unfortunately I'm sure vandals will destroy it and steal the books. Sad that I think that way but these days people have no respect.

  7. Outstanding photos as always. This looks like a wonderful area to explore. You had me in the first photo with the lure of lobster and pizza. The sights were even better.

    1. Thanks Lee!!! This whole place is wonderful to explore. Did you ever make it up to New England and Cape Cod in all your travels? It's worth seeing, especially in the fall.

    2. I've been there, but usually it's been in March. Once in the late 70's I think I was there in Fall but actually I don't recall exactly what season it was.

  8. I love those fall colours too, JoJo, and especially marine shots of water. I always smile when viewing your latest forays. Thanks for giving me a view into your area. I wanted to live in that section of the country early on in my life but went west instead. . .

    1. Thank you! I had a very strong pull to move west myself....even when I was a little kid i wanted to be in California. Those 22 years I spent in CA & WA were great but at this age, it's good to be back here.

  9. Your photos are the BEST. I love that idea on a book while you beach. What if.... I mean it could happen. What if you were at a good place and didn't want to leave the book behind?

    1. Thanks!!!! Gee I never even thought of that! It would be a conundrum for sure. Or you'd have to make note of what you were reading and buy or download it.
