The Clydesdales Come to BBay!

Continuing on with this summer packed with fun events, the famous Budweiser Clydesdales came to Buzzards Bay for a few days at the end of August.  I assumed they came all the way from St. Louis but then I heard they were from New Hampshire.

I actually lucked out big time and walked down there on the Tuesday afternoon when they arrived, and got to see them taken off the trucks.

They were inside munching away, while the stalls were set up under a huge tent in the park.

Oh HAI!

"Here comes the king, here comes the big number one..."  The commercial was playing on a continuous loop in the tent and was stuck in my head all week.

Bridge reflected in the truck's chrome.

I thought, and had hoped, that this was a murmuration but the birds split up and went in separate directions after I shot this.

Their fuzzy feet are the size of dinner plates.

These are some big horses.

I can't even imagine getting stepped on by those hooves, much less kicked.

10 stalls were set up inside the tent.  We had a run of sunny but cool weather so it was the perfect temp inside.

Derp.

Here come a few more!

That's Buddy the dalmation.  These dogs were traditionally used to guard the horses when drivers were making their wagon deliveries.  He rides on the wagon seat with the drivers.  Unfortunately, although a couple of hitched demonstrations were given with the wagon, which went down Main Street and also participated in a small parade in Sandwich, I was unable to get downtown for it.

All the horses are male and they all have names.

I went down to see them a few times, even though I missed the hitch.

The last day they were in town, Sheila & Joey came down from Orleans so we got together to visit the horses, and grab some food and ice cream.

Thank you Budweiser! "When you say Bud, you've said it all!"

    1. Yeah....we passed by it in BBay on the way home but my stepson & his fiancee' were over and we were unable to stop. Then they did a parade in Sandwich and we weren't about to sit in traffic to get there for that.

I get to see them when I visit Busch Gardens every summer. They are so beautiful and the dog, so well behaved! Great pictures (as always).

    1. I can't believe this is the first time I'm making the Busch Gardens/Anheuser Busch connection. Wow. Yes, their dalmations are very well behaved, considering what a high maintenance breed it can be.

    1. The only other time I saw them close up was on the A-B tour in St. Louis. Their barn is VERY posh.

  4. I like horses, and I've seen the Clydesdales at our Pacific National Exhibition. They are magnificent horses, perhaps like old time 'war horses' in size. Nice photo essay.

    1. Thanks! I like them too but I was never one of those 'buy me a pony' girls when I was a kid.

    1. It was surprising how many people I overheard saying they thought the temporary stalls were too small and the horses looked sad. They looked OK to me...

  6. Indeed they are impressive animals, truly beautiful creatures. One of my favorite TV commercials was the one with the little Clydesdale colt trying to pull a big Budweiser wagon. The little tyke pulls and pulls and finally the wagon slowly begins to inch forward and as it does the camera pans back to show several grown-up Clydesdales pushing the wagon from behind. I always thought that was such a cute commercial. :)

    1. Bud has done a lot of really great commercials with the horses and the dogs. Remember the one with the dalmation puppies and one is selected from the litter? Years later the Bud wagon passes another vehicle with a dalmation in each, looking at each other, and the Bud dog sticks his tongue out at his long lost brother. They did a few that made me cry too, like the one you mentioned. :)
