Second Blizzard in Less Than a Month

I'm still not adjusting well to this climate at all.  I know it's supposed to be cold and snow in winter, and I certainly experienced it when I was growing up, but it seems worse now that I'm older.  We had a second snowstorm/blizzard that dumped a ton of snow on the coast.  Another 2 feet, but again, it was nice and fluffy so no power outage issues.

These things were pretty cool hanging off the roof.  I left them this time.

It snowed for just about 24 hours straight.

The day cleared out by sunset and it was beautiful out.  Ice cold and still.

This was right after sunset at blue hour.  After it got dark it was crystal clear and the stars looked like diamonds against the black sky.

This is the next day.  I was calling them snow waves for lack of a better description.

I wanted to see how big this one would get.  This was 2 days after the snowstorm.

It started to melt fairly quickly for a couple of days.

This is the last pic I took before a big chunk broke off in the warmer weather.

And we've had more snow since these pictures were taken.

  1. I love winter (good thing I live in Canada!)... and love those "waves" off the roof. We have huge ones too... usually hanging precariously above our front door. We have way more snow this year too; drifts nearly up to the top of our six foot fence.

    1. I recently saw a pic of one of those snow things that had slid off a roof onto a deck in a perfect roll. I was hoping this might do something like that but the distance to the ground was too far. I cannot stand this unrelenting cold though, esp. if it's windy.

  2. Those waves are so cool!! As much as I love winter, I hope the weather calms down for a while. Today was the first day my kids went to school in 7 days between the blizzard conditions and the dangerous wind chills. Winter is all fine and good but life has to proceed too.

I love winter to, but this super cold spell is really something else. My kids finally went back to school and my husband finally went back to work. They've been off since Thursday of last week.

    1. I'm just glad I didn't have to be anywhere myself! But I do worry about Russell on the road.

  4. I don't want to rub it in, JoJo, but we're having mild weather here on the west coast of BC, rainy on some days yes, but. . .
It's the luck of the weather gnome. . . We do have our snow years, though, as you know.
Snow waves is an apt description!

    1. I don't think anyone will forget the winter of 2008 in the PNW. The entire region was shut down from Vancouver to Vancouver for almost 2 weeks!!! I do miss the rainy winters though. I love my friends and family and being back here is great but I wish it was a better climate.

    1. I would gladly take rain any day over this wretched cold and snow. And we still have to slog through February and March.

    2. Oh, JoJo, we have some people over here whose homes and villages have been underwater for more than a month, I don't think you'd like that one bit. The ground all over the UK is so sodden it cannot absorb any more water. We've had twice the normal amount of January rainfall. Add really strong winds causing tidal surges and it's flood kingdom at present.

      Climate change? What climate change?

The snow waves are awesome. I'm normally someone who really enjoys the snow. This year, it's just been too much. I'm done. Bring on the spring!

    1. Man alive I hear that! And I was never a fan of spring. I hope that we actually have a spring and it doesn't go from winter to summer.

    1. I hear it's worse than the one in the early 90s. Gonna be a bad fire season out there.

  8. We've had two days of snow here, too, but only about 14" total. Roads horrid. May I buy a copy of the sepia toned tree at sunset? Man, I want that picture.
Gorgeous set of shots. Love the description "snow waves" too. It doesn't do that here in Colorado, but on the eaves the edges of the snow look like puff pastry...

  10. You have been totally battered by blizzards. Your amazing photos are of beauty and of what nature can throw our way. In Britain, we have just had the mildest, wettest January on record. The weather has gone crazy.

    1. I thought perhaps the lack of acorns in my yard would mean an uneventful winter but I guess the squirrels got to them before I saw them.
