Continuing our Tour of Local Beaches...

Town Neck Beach in Sandwich on a gorgeous fall day.

It's a little bit rocky.

OK so it's a lot rocky.  No I was not barefoot; I'm not that stupid.  It was kind of a point of pride, as a kid, to confidently walk on these barefoot, especially to show up the tourists who were picking their way carefully on bare feet, more than one exclaiming, "OW! My foot! That hurt!!"  Well I'm too old for that shit so I kept my shoes on.

First I walked over to the breakwater on the Canal.

Standing on the jetties, this is Cape Cod Bay to my right.

This one is a much easier walk to get out on than the Scusset breakwater, whose rocks are more uneven and too far apart for me to risk an attempt to jump over the spaces only to break or twist an ankle upon landing. Then I'd really be screwed.

East entrance of the Canal.

"Dump duck".  They have little fear of humans and will come right up to you and beg for food if you have it.  Or just steal it out of your bag, which happened to a friend of mine over the summer on this beach.

Not much in the way of glass here...it's pretty picked clean since this beach gets a lot of use, all the time.

Erosion.

See the difference in the beach height on either side of this jetty?

It was on this beach foray that I shot one of the best pics I've ever taken. I'm really proud of this photo.  I didn't do anything special of course, I just shot what I saw and thought would look pretty.

So funny you call the seagull a dump duck! Out at Jones Beach on Long Island, the seagulls used to swoop down and steal sandwiches right out of our hands! It was crazy. I'd never walk in my barefeet either. Crazy!

  5. I love the very first photo of Town Neck Beaches - the water looks warm, clean and inviting, plus the colours are gorgeous.

Do you have any woods or forests near you - I'd love to see what you could do with your camera and some early morning sunrises ;)

  6. I tell you this all the time...you need to go professional. Like working with travel sites and doing their brochures. You're photos are top rate and could be seen by so many more people.

  8. Lovely photos of your northern beaches.
Guess as we get older we either get wiser or our pain sensors become more finely tuned. As a teen I used to go barefoot all the time, the scalding hot pavement of a hot, 106, August day would never have fazed me. Now the story is a different one. :D

The last photo is beautiful and I know I would be bursting with pride had I taken such a perfect shot. The composition of it is impeccable.

  9. Thanks so much everyone for your kind words! :D

Mark, yes there are lots of woods around here as well as beaches...but the odds of me getting up and dressed for sunrise are not good. I'm the sunset specialist. Sunrise? Not so much. lol
