Another Beach Day!!!

I think I've been to the beach more in the first 2 weeks of January than I was all last summer!!!  We had another spiffing day in coastal Massachusetts on the 11th!!!  My intent that day was to get up and clean, do laundry, make soup...maybe do the grocery shopping.  But by 10:30 a.m. I had decided that I could not let a gorgeous, mild winter day go to waste doing mundane crap that would still be waiting when I got home in early afternoon.

So I loaded up the Bean and my camera and headed up to White Horse Beach, in Plymouth.  It's not far away...only 18 or so miles one way.  I'd never been there before.  One of my friends posted on Facebook that she'd found 15 pieces of beach glass at Plymouth Beach, a few miles north, so I decided to try White Horse.  While Buttermilk Bay and Onset Beaches are close and lovely, they don't yield much in the way of good beach glass at all.

"I have always loved the beach.  The smell of the salty water, the wind in my face, the gentle roar of the waves all combine to create a sense of peace and calm."  Anonymous

Sea Doggie!!!  I truly think Pepper's had more adventures in the 8 months she's lived here than in her first 9 years in Washington.

Have you ever really stopped to look at seaweed?  It's very pretty and varied.

The rollers were awesome.

"The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever."  Jacques Cousteau

Always on the lookout for a good ground score, this sparkling rainbow lure caught my eye.  I took it home with me since the hook was gone.  There was a lot of plastic on the beach...not ground to bits like on the west  coast, but larger pieces.

I love beach bricks too.  I haven't seen one in years.  I didn't take this one home, but I found a smaller one that did end up in my baggie.

Salty dawg is salty.

"Every time we walk along a beach, some ancient urge disturbs us so that we find ourselves shedding shoes and garments or scavenging among seaweed and whitened timbers like the homesick refugees of a long war."  Loren Eiseley.

Still a little bit of snow in the shady areas.

This is a sanderling and they are just so adorable.  I thought at first it was a piping plover but one of my friends identified them for me.

They showed no fear as I approached them slowly, and surprisingly Pepper showed no interest in chasing them at all.  They walk quickly and it's so cute how they peck food out of the water and sand so fast! They scurried by me, oblivious to my being a couple of feet away.

There they go, up the beach with a couple of seagull chaperones.

This must be the white horse of White Horse Beach fame.  ;-D

On the way home on Rte. 3 south.

Good to see that the DOT was right on top of getting the year changed on this sign right away.  My tax dollars at work.

It was so awesome to get out there.  I was wicked mellow when I got home, but still got the laundry done,  made corn chowdah, egg salad and tuna salad, and prepped all the veggies for another soup that I made the following day.

Today's beach combing treasures.  That rock on the left is really stunning when wet.  All of them are, especially the ones with stripes.  The thing that looks like a bug under the sparkly lure is a snail shell with some seaweed growing out of the point of the shell.  It looks cool.

As you can see, when submerged, the water makes the rocks really pop with colour and stripes.

Easily one of the best beach glass finds in a long time.  The diamond shaped one on the bottom left is a very pale blue, not white.

And a couple of neat pieces of driftwood.
