Mt. Rainier and Lenticular Clouds - Dec. 2008 copyright: JMM

November 5, 2008

"You have seen the heavy groups, now you will see morning maniac music, believe me, yeah...

...It's a new dawn!"

Look what's happening out in the streets
Got a revolution
Got to revolution
Hey I'm dancing down the streets
Got a revolution
Got to revolution
Ain't it amazing all the people I meet
Got a revolution
Got to revolution
One generation got old
One generation got soul
This generation got no destination to hold
Pick up the cry
Hey now it's time for you and me
Got a revolution
Got to revolution
Come on now we're marching to the sea
Got a revolution
Got to revolution
Who will take it from you
We will and who are we
We are volunteers of America

    George Michael does "Volunteers?"

    Man, I'm depressed.

  6. Bryde & Axe - I wasn't sure if anyone under the age of 35-40 would recognize "Volunteers" by the Jefferson Airplane unless they were 60's music freaks and/or have seen "Woodstock".

Joe - LOL!!!!! Somehow I just can't see George Michael singing this song.

  8. It's from "Feelin' Good"-which he covers in a sweet burlesque way.

    it's a new dawn
    it's a new day
    it's a new life
    for me
    and I'm feeling good

  13. Madi & Axe - On the live version of Jefferson Airplane's song "Volunteers", from Woodstock, Grace Slick says the words that are in the blog title, ending w/ "it's a new dawn" then they jump into the song. Gracie's got quite a set of pipes on her.

Val - Well, you admit that you only had eyes for the Beatles so that doesn't surprise me! lol

  15. I got it once I realised who the artist was. I was like, "I know this song from somewhere... shit, what's the tune... ahhh."

  18. Ann and Bryde, thanks for the heads-up, would like to hear that. Always did like it!

Volunteers (on the album) segued into the coolest song, "We can be together"--does anyone remember that? I just loved it.

They went together very well, it was like, first we volunteer for revolution, and then we are all together.

Here you go, if you want it. :) This seriously jammed, people! Great lyrics, and this video has some great visuals, too. Jorma looked fabulous! I think this might have been the Monterey Pop festival?

We are the forces of chaos and anarchy
Everything they say we are, we are
And we are very proud of ourselves

Grace also said "motherfucker" in the song, although Marty didn't want her too, and notice he WON'T sing it. :D

  19. Fen - I completely agree but no one seems to write protest songs like they did in the 60's. Be glad I didn't quote "Feel Like I'm Fixin to Die Rag"!!!

Axe - I still wonder what Grace was thinking when she stayed with "Starship". I mean seriously, "We Built this City"???
(OK, I admit, it's a guilty pleasure song of mine but still...)

Daisy - Marty was always kind of wishy washy I thought. I like him, but he never really seemed to fit w/ Paul, Jorma, Grace, Jack & Skip.
