An Afternoon in T-Town

Friday was nearly 80 degrees and I got out of work for the day at 11:00, so I bopped around taking pictures & taking Pepper for a walk along the waterfront on Ruston Way. Unlike the journal pages, these pictures will enlarge if you click on them.

This is Bob's Java Jive. I have never been inside, but they have music on the weekends. The City closed it down a few months ago because of a ton of code violations and the community pitched in to fix the problems. The City gave the green light to re-open it in March. It's in the teapot style made popular after the "Teapot Dome" scandal of 1924. Anyone interested in reading what the scandal entails can go here, because I don't remember any of the details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teapot_Dome_scandal

I love this sign for the Elephant Car Wash in downtown Tacoma.

Pampas grass along Ruston Way.

Taken along Ruston Way.
Commencement Bay, Tacoma.
Looking west across Commencement Bay at the rocky, craggy peaks of the Olympic Mountains. This picture looks much better and the mountains clearer if you click on it to make it bigger.
I was going to eat lunch here, but unfortunately a group of about 12 people walked in ahead of me, and it was just too hot to leave Pepper in the car that long, so I went home hungry.

I had planned to eat outside too.
This is what Mt. Rainier looks like from River Road, between Tacoma and Puyallup. I see this view every (clear) day on the way home (by the way, I'm really good at shooting pictures while driving!). Again, much more impressive if click on it.

Looking east at the Cascade Mountains, from Hwy. 410 in Sumner, which is the town below Bonney Lake. In fact, the second ridge down from the mountains is Bonney Lake. Ditto on making it larger to see the Cascades and the hill that is Bonney Lake.
This is what Mt. Rainier looks like in Bonney Lake, at the top of the hill. I was turning off of Hwy. 410 onto Old Sumner-Buckley Highway, which leads to my neighborhood.

I would have a hard time focusing on traffic with that majestic mountain in view.

  6. At 14,410 feet, it's kind of hard to take your eyes off it, that's for sure!
