Foliage on the Canal

Liz was down for the weekend a couple weeks ago, so she & I met up at the Sandwich Marina for a walk to the Sagamore Bridge and back.  It was a GORGEOUS day.  So warm & clear.  The trees were on fire.

I hadn't walked to the bridge on this side since the 1980s, before I moved away.  They have now marked the miles and half miles on the service roads on both sides.  We were so engrossed in our conversation that I didn't notice exactly how far it is from the Marina to the bridge and back.  I looked it up when I got home; I never realized it was a 4 mile round trip.  Not too shabby!

They are still painting the bridge.  See that guy up there?  The traffic is a nightmare because of this project which is taking way, way too long.

There was a woman on a bike, that was stopped and looking straight down at the water.  At this point, the service road is quite a bit higher from the water than it is on the other side, so we couldn't see what she was looking at.  She looked up at us, saw our cameras and said, 'You might want to take a picture of the heron down there.'  We were grateful for the heads up!

Scusset & The Stone Church

It sure is nice to have our beaches back again.  Now I can resume my beach combing endeavors!  Headed out to Scusset one day.  Didn't check the tide table and arrived for high tide that was starting to go out. It was super choppy on the Bay with lots of nice rollers.

I had to crop this pic to show the seagull up close with his head turned to the side.  I had no idea he did that when I took the pic.

I've never walked the Scusset jetty out to the end...well I did once when I was a kid but not as an adult.  I did get up on it today but I'm just too afraid I'm gonna trip and kill myself jumping from rock to rock.

Looking over at the Sandwich jetty.  This was during the full moon so the tide was higher than usual.

I just love shooting waves.

Saucy little sandpiper.

Not quite as impressive as the beach logs of the Pacific NW.

It's so peaceful listening to the pounding surf.  I walked a long way, first to the Canal jetty then pretty far down Sagamore Beach.  Not a lot of glass but a few good pieces.  I'll have to return in a month or so, or after our first storm.

After I left Scusset, I went in search of the stone church that Russell told me was near the Canal. It was pretty easy to find.

The corner stone said 1910.

Out back near the playground I found these adorable mosaic stones made by children.

Clever rainbow!

Even more clever dinosaur!

This was the view from the path where I parked to shoot the church.  Still undergoing painting.  I swear they built the Golden Gate Bridge in less time than it's taking to repaint the Sagamore Bridge!

The beachcombing finds for the day.  That round, white piece of glass to the top right of the largest brown one is one of those flat glass blobs, like the kind I use a lot on jars and bottles.  This was the first time I've ever found one of those and it ranks up there with marbles.  I was pretty excited to get that one!

Sagamore, Part 3

Walked over to the Canal from 6A for a couple snappies.

There is something about houses with this shape that bum me out.  I may have had a nightmare or weird dream, or maybe saw a scary tv show or movie when I was little.  I love the architecture but I'd never live in one.

This is the old Keith mansion.  It's huge and beautiful and in need of some TLC.  I bet it'd make a great bed & breakfast, but it's an eye doctor's office now.  Reminded me of the Gatsby Mansion in Victoria.

I love his sign.

Mural on the Montessori School.

Louis' goes back a long, long way and unfortunately it's closed and the windows all papered up.  But the signs remain.

Canalview Apartments, aka 'The Blocks'.

Surprisingly I found nothing I wanted to buy in the gift shop!  Lots of pretties, but nothing spoke to me.

Looking down into the hot shop.

Back of the Christmas Tree Shop.

The bridge is being painted.

Rte 6A, going under the bridge.

When I first learned how to skate, I had lessons at the indoor rink in Plymouth (the rink in Hyannis, while in a large Quonset Hut type building, it was considered 'outdoors'), until the Gallo rink was built in about 1972 or 73.

The last time I was on skates, 1988, was here.  I loved it but I don't dare try it now at this age.  I cannot afford a broken knee or wrist!

I hope you enjoyed my little tour of Sagamore!
