An Abbreviated Trip to Scraggy Neck

I haven't been out to Scraggy Neck to beachcomb in a long time.  Usually I am extremely lucky with glass.  So we headed over there to check it out.  Unfortunately the second we got out of the car we were hit with a strong and icy wind.  I couldn't believe it.  We were NOT dressed for that kind of cold at all.  Needless to say, this was the fastest and most half assed beachcomb I've ever done.

White caps in Buzzards Bay.  The thing sticking up on the horizon is the Cleveland Ledge Lighthouse.

It wasn't so bad if I faced in this direction but we were still buffeted by that wind.

Russell was quite chuffed at his find of a very old, hand wrought chain.  He spent the rest of the trip tantalizing me with thoughts of possible treasure chests buried in the sand.  Now we both want to go back down there with a shovel.

These were my finds from Scraggy Neck, although the slipper and scallop shell were from Town Neck the day before.  The rock on the bottom right says "You don't have time to be timid. You must be Bold & Daring'.  It's from the Kindness Rock Project and we found it on the stone bridge that'll be featured in my next blog post.

    1. I know! I was stoked. Russell actually spied it tucked under one of the little arches on the bridge. It's funny though cause a few years ago I was leaving rocks around with sayings and it didn't catch on. No one picked them up. Now it's a huge fad. lol

  3. That chain was a great find! I usually find ropes buried that are probably parts of old lobster pots. Not nearly as fun as an old chain!

  4. Looks like a rough, cold day. Too bad you didn't find more sea glass. I'd have been stoked about the chain too!

    1. The chain rusted almost immediately after I cleaned all those clumps of seaweed and sand. Not sure what we're gonna do with it. Probably have to spray rust oleum black paint on it.

  6. it has turned very cold here in CT, and I can't even imagine the wind on the beach up in MA. I don't ever seem to find beach glass on my walks - sure wish we had some here!

    1. It's freezing out today. There is no way I'd go out to the beach not even with a heavy coat.

  9. Some of your beach rock shots remind me of the artist Tony Onley's drawings. I'd wonder about that chain, too. Could just be a heavy anchor buried under there. I liked that you used the 'chuffed' word, it's such a neat sounding term.

    1. I really love 'chuffed'. lol It is a neat word!! Anchors don't usually wash up on shore and it's way too rocky for any ship to attempt a landing, even in a smaller boat. He's still talking about what could be buried!!!! I couldnt' find anything by a Tony Onley online at all.
