Side Trip to West Island, Fairhaven

When scouring aerial/satelite maps of the area to look for possible good beach glass beaches, I saw a potential beachcombing area on West Island, which is the crescent shaped beach at the bottom right of this pic.

First I stopped at Hoppy's Landing to take some pics before I continued onto West Island.

Huge pile of shells.  Having a crushed clam shell driveway is very popular in these parts.

Looking over at Sconticut Neck.

This was an old WWII lookout tower and is in the parking lot at West Island.  You can read about the history of it HERE if you are so inclined.

The beachcoming wasn't very good at all.  I found one green piece and one brown but that was it.

Just some little waves.  It was a calm day.

Painted on a utility box.

  1. I like following your short tirps Jojo. It is a good thing to do within your own country, frequenty we are not aware of what our own land is like, and it is in fact interesting too!
I am sorry your beachcombing hope fell short. But the day seemd to be good and I like the waves...
Speaking of the WWII tower, today Russia celebrates 69th anniversary of Victory in this war. So you hit the point with that photo unwillingly.
Have an enjoyable weekend! I am going to try to make some shortcrust pastry pie :)Let's see.

    1. I never appreciated this area when I grew up here but there are a lot of hidden gems! I really enjoy playing tourist!

What is in your pastry pie? I love pie!

    2. I am sure you did enjoy, also your latest pics of the catheral are amazing!
Oh I put white grapes in it, simmered them in advance. The pie came out great, everyone liked. Pity I cannot post pics in my blog :)

  2. Love the shots you took of the shoreline with the horizon in the distance and an expanse of crystal blue sky studded with puffs of white clouds. So peaceful and serene, looks like a great place to chill out, calm down and release all stress and anxieties.
Sorry the Sea Glass pickings weren't better but guess 2 pieces are better than none - and that green shard looks nicely worn down by the sea and sand.

    1. Thanks! Yes I am pleased with that green piece. Sometimes finding just one awesome piece is better than a pocketful of only partially worn bits. It was very quiet at this beach but I was pretty aware of the surroundings because it's so off the beaten path. I'm sure it's mobbed in summer but not on a chilly April weekday.

    1. It's addictive....I get in 'the zone' and I just want to keep walking and searching. I put my 'glass hunting eyes' on and can spot even the tiniest of chips, but not at this beach!

  4. Hi JoJo,

A most interesting collection of photos, JoJo. Any place named "Hoppy's Landing" is bound to get some blogger setting up a blog hop theme.

Too bad about the beach. Beachcombing can be a bit of hit and miss. I took a larger comb to the beach, last time, with no luck at all. That lighthouse looks rather phallic. I know, what the shell am I talking about...

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, my good friend.

    Gary :)

    1. Hi Gary! Thanks for stopping by! Yes I agree about the beachcombing. Now that summer's coming it's going to be really bad. Plus like I said I won't pay for a parking sticker and the fees to park are crazy expensive. One beach charges $20 to park! Wrong.

i thought the lighthouse looked more like a missile!
