The Forgotten Roll of Film

Long before digital photography and editing took over, I used to shoot black & white film quite a bit. I always liked to have one camera loaded with it when I was on vacations in case I saw some interesting masonry or ironwork that'd look good in B&W.  Unfortunately as I began to shoot more and more in digital, my film endeavors fell by the wayside.  I had a roll in one of my cameras for a couple of years and I forgot what was even on it.  In the spring of 2012, I decided to shoot what was left on the roll, although I neglected to notice that it was black & white film.  I truly thought it was a roll of colour.  So almost all the pictures I shot were of flowers.  Imagine my surprise when I popped the cartridge out and discovered it was black & white!

So I took the roll to CVS and sent it away.  A few days later they called me to say that the roll was rejected because their processor couldn't do that particular kind of film.  The roll languished in my purse for a few more years, until early in 2015 when my friend Alicia, a film student in Spokane, said that she could process it for me at the school.

She was busy with classes of course, first, so she was finally able to get the negatives and pics sent to me in mid December.  It was pretty cool to see what was on it!  Most of the pics are flowers so I didn't bother taking pics of the pics.  But here are some of the others.

Threesome

Get your dirty little minds out of the gutter!  I didn't mean it that way!  ;-D

Here is the last of the beaded embroidery designs.  I started the first one at the end of April so it took just over a month to stitch all 7 designs.  Now I am working on the altered book into which they are going.

I noticed that my dear friend Marsha's birthday was coming up in June so I whipped up this beaded cross stitch and made a fridge magnet for her.  

Finally, my mom gave me an old wooden tray that saw a lot of cheese & crackers in its day, along with 4 pretty, patterned tiles.  She was going to send them to the thrift shop but asked if I wanted dibs on them first.  I painted the tray blue and envisioned stenciled designs on it.  I have always sucked at stenciling but I decided to give it another try.

I was frustrated and posted the picture on Facebook, in the hope that someone could tell me what I was doing wrong.  Fortunately, few people commented that the trick to stenciling was to use an almost-dry brush, and dab at it, up and down, with the brush, applying more than one coat if need be.  It was a time consuming process, which took a couple of days to do.  I ended up taking over the kitchen table to get it done.

As of the preparation of this blog post, I have not yet sealed the paint with Mod Podge.  After that's done, I will adhere the tiles to the center of the tray.

More Springy Flowers

This gorgeous pink bush is on the line between us and the house next door.  It's breathtaking.  Pictures do not do the flowers justice at all.

I snipped a couple and used them with the Lily of the Valley, which I also cut from the yard, for my mom for Mother's Day.  They looked so pretty together.

This is that red one in the back yard.  It appears to be an azalea from what everyone's told me.  The red doesn't seem to photograph well but it's a stunning shade of deep red.

And the butterflies were loving the lilac bushes.

My only complaint about lilacs is that they don't last near as long as they should, and they only bloom once.

No idea what these pretty purple flowers are either.

Speaking of Mother's Day, this is a close up of the carnation that was given to at the drive thru at Honey Dew, in BBay, that Sunday. 

Here's another amazing flowering bush in front of the house, blooming in a gorgeous shade of pinky purple.  

Tons of Lily of the Valley in the front and back yards too!  They smell awesome too!

No idea what this is, but the flowers are pretty.

Honeysuckle?  Not sure but it smells soooo good!

No idea what these are either but I love the colours!!!
