Fairhaven, Part 2

Continuing our architectural tour of Fairhaven, this is their town hall! How cool would it be to work here?

Fairhaven Architecture, Part 1

Fairhaven is an architecture lover's dream.  When Diane, the kids & I went to Fort Phoenix, we passed by this huge cathedral and I couldn't wait to take pics of it!!  It's the Unitarian church and I wish it had been open so I could see the inside.

 The stonework is breathtaking

Flying buttresses!

I assume this is a copper door.  The patina is lovely and the detail is exquisite.

This is next door and I think serves as the church's offices.

This whole neighbourhood is full of old homes and almost all of them have plaques on them showing the approximate or exact date of construction with the historical family name on them.  A lot of them were the homes of ship captains and built in the mid 1800s.

This is a private residence!

Side Trip to West Island, Fairhaven

When scouring aerial/satelite maps of the area to look for possible good beach glass beaches, I saw a potential beachcombing area on West Island, which is the crescent shaped beach at the bottom right of this pic.

First I stopped at Hoppy's Landing to take some pics before I continued onto West Island.

Huge pile of shells.  Having a crushed clam shell driveway is very popular in these parts.

Looking over at Sconticut Neck.

This was an old WWII lookout tower and is in the parking lot at West Island.  You can read about the history of it HERE if you are so inclined.

The beachcoming wasn't very good at all.  I found one green piece and one brown but that was it.

Just some little waves.  It was a calm day.
