More Sandwich Glass Scores

Quick stop at Crow Farm to pick up some beach plum jelly.  I love that stuff.  In the 70s, my dad used to pick the beach plums around our cottage at Spring Hill Beach for jelly.  I can't recall if he made it or gave them to someone to make for us.

Crow Farm has been around for 100 years and they still provide seasonal fresh produce, pies, jellies, etc.  Russell & I went to school with the current generation that's running the farm.  It's a real Sandwich institution.

The pull to hunt for Sandwich Glass, despite high tide, was too much so I went to my spot to see what I could find.  See those two sticks out there?  That's the top of a now-submerged dock.  That's how high the water level was.

SUCCESS!  Red!  Whoo hoo!

And another, white with red.

Of course had to stop for the obligatory Boardwalk pictures.

Normally I would never venture out when the water's this high (unless my intent is to jump into the water, which was very tempting on this warm day) but the distance from the parking lot to the bridge part is pretty short so I braved it.

Sparkly

The water was crystal clear

Since I was in the area, I decided to try and find the old abandoned railway car.  I'd never heard of, or seen this, in all the years I lived there the first time.  No idea what the history of it is.  As I stood there shooting pics, I could hear the train whistle headed my way.  I was stoked!

Here she comes!

The engineer waved to me.

Have always loved the sound of a train.

Yummy yum!

My scores for the day

The beach finds.  Trying so hard to stop collecting pretty rocks and shells but they're so pretty.

Sandwich glass

Slag which I love finding as much as the shattered glass pieces

The crown jewels of that day's finds.  3 red/pink, a purple...greens and blues.  I was a happy camper!

  1. First of all, what is a Beach Plum?
Oh, the train! I like trains, too! Did you peek inside the old car? I don't think I would be able to stop myself.
Unbelievable that the tide is so high, is that from the global warming? Very clear water, lovely!
It wasn't a wasted trip. You have some great finds!
Thanks for the adventure! Have a great day!

    1. It's a species of plum bushes that grow really well in sand dunes. They don't really taste good if you eat the fruits off the bush...a bit bitter, but as jelly they are AWESOME. I couldn't get near the old train car...too overgrown and I was afraid of ticks.

  2. Looks very similar in many areas here, still flooded and high water levels from hurricane Irma. Beautiful finds! I can't stop collecting either. My house if filled with bowls and jars filled with rocks, shells, and sea glass. Who could resist?! I do the painted rocks too and leave them around for others to find :)

    1. It must've been a full moon the day of that tide. Some are higher than others. I used to do the painted rocks before it became popular but I prefer to find them!

  3. The rest of the planet only seems to have plastic bottles on its beaches. You are lucky.

    1. The west coast is bad for plastics on the beaches. Sometimes I see stuff here...depends on the tide and what's floating around. The balloons are my biggest pet peeve.

  5. You scored big time! What a collection, JoJo.
That crystal clear water looks as though it's not even there - that's how clear it is.

    1. Happy Halloween to you too! It was so tempting to jump in that water. I'm sure it wasn't warm at all like in summer! haha But it was a very warm day.

  7. Beach plum jelly sounds good to me as long as it doesn't have sand in it. Love the train pics. That old train car is indeed intriguing.

    1. LOL! No sand, fortunately! I would love to hack my way over to that train car but only if I'm with someone else. It's kind of creepy.

  8. Your photos are always so pretty. Wow, red, that was a good find. Never had plum jelly. Sounds good, I love plums. I enjoy the train also. I wish they would put in a really good train system. We really need it with so many cars on the road. I love a train ride. hugs, lj

    1. Thanks Lady Jane! Yes, finding the red is always a great score. Back in those days when the factory was there, red was made with gold. Beach plums are much smaller than regular plums. They look like grapes but they grow on bushes. They aren't very good to eat off the bush as they are tart.

  9. How do you do it? You could find gorgeous little gems in a dumpster, I'm guessing.

Hi, JoJo. Just checking back in, because you were so kinda as to drop by Life by Chocolate. I hope you're well.
