You Knew I Couldn't Stay Away....

Since my stitching projects are taking awhile, I needed an 'instant gratification' kit to knock together. This took about 3 days and is a fridge magnet which I gave to one of my friends.

So my cheapo diamond painted peacock is done and looks really pixelated.

Turkeys in the neighbour's yard one morning.

I was killing some time downtown last week and...well...one thing lead to another and I found myself at the salt marshes at low tide to look for more glass.

I never actually stopped to look at this before.

Hard to get a good photo though.  It's a map of the glass factory.

You can see it much better in this map I have on my wall.

You can even see where the boardwalk is.  So all those marshes near where the factory was are loaded with glass.

This was a little troubling....I find it hard to believe that live clams would intentionally beach themselves at low tide in the sun.  I couldn't tell if they were still alive but the tide was coming in and they'd be covered by water.  I really hope someone didn't dump them there cause they are undersized. What a horrible waste.

My third haul from that location.  Very pleased with everything.

Red.  OMG Red.

I gave up my spot to a couple of friends so that they can pick up where I left off and I hope they find some great treasures too!  Just waiting for warmer weather cause I AM going into that creek at low tide to see if there's anything left.

  1. Nifty projects and oh, that glass. The greens catch my eye. I want to take off my shoes and wade in too.

  2. What are you going to do with that peacock? A bit disappointing, I concur. The seagull is very lovely. I have only seen 1 turkey venture into the yard. I know they have to be around ... Cool maps! I think you may be right about those little clams. :( More glass finds, what do you plan on doing when you have more?

    1. I don't know what to do with the peacock to be honest. It's not really display-worthy. The picture on amazon definitely made it look way nicer. As for the glass, not sure. They've been sitting on paper plates on my stove for 3 weeks. I need to get a jar or something!

  7. Sandwich has so much history and so many wonderful places around it that beg for exploration. From the map it looks like the old glass factory was huge. What happened to it, was it destroyed by fire ?

With your wonderful and vast collection of vintage glass, have you ever attempted to craft a Kaleidoscope? So many of todays kaleidoscopes have bits and pieces of plastic in them and just do not have the fantastic deminsion that the old ones, that used fragments of sparkling colored glass, had.

    1. Thank you! I believe the factory was demolished so that more homes could be built. It only operated till 1888. A friend of Russell's was using a backhoe to dig for a foundation a few years back and came upon a pit full of glass. He covered it back up because he was afraid work would be halted for archaeology reasons. lol

I've never tried to do a kaleidoscope but that would be neat. I don't know how I'd do the interior mirror. I'd need one that has a removable bottom so that I could put the glass chips inside.
