Russell really likes this place so we stopped for a few minutes one day. We didn't have any quarters, however, so we weren't able to feed the fish.
This hatchery started in 1912. They grow trout to stock the ponds for fishing purposes.
Rainbow trout.
It was hard to get a good pic with the netting over the tops of the large tanks.
Water is pumped into the various tanks.
This one was dry.
As I said, neither of us had any change for the feed pellets.
Yum. I love trout. Interesting place to visit. There are/were places here where you can go to fish and if you catch anything you pay by the weight. Haven't been for years. Matt's youngest daughter caught the biggest trout in the place, cost him a lot of money LOL
ReplyDeleteWhen Russell was a kid he'd sneak in here and grab a few fish but his dad warned him they'd taste like mud because of the pellet feed and apparently he was right. Once they get into the ponds and eating regular pond food they are fine.

LOL No we didn't....kind of frowned upon! lol But we could fish in the ponds once they are stocked!
DeleteInteresting. I remember going to a fish hatchery in NM, as a child. I wanted to take some home, too. :-)

DeleteMy dad worked at a state park for 25 years and the Fish Hatchery. I spent many summers as a kid roaming the park. We visited it many times with our kids and yes they FED THE FISH. Free of charge of course. Sandwich looks awesome.
ReplyDeleteThis is a nice free place to go too. Kids really seem to love it. And still a bargain at just 25 cents for a handful of feed.
