Since I won't be setting foot down here again till fall (if even then), I figured I might as well go take some pics at the waterfront since I was in the neighbourhood.
These are buoys. They look like colourful cattails.

These are 'Artist Shanties'. I have no idea what these are like when they are open as I've never seen them open.
Love the name!
Each shanty had the name of one of the villages in Barnstable.
The Hyannis Harbor area was not this nice the first time I lived here. It was very run down. They've done a nice job over the years.

Thanks so much Gary! I have a 'local bucket list' so I am trying to check off as many of the sites as possible. I still have to do Orleans and am trying to figure out what to shoot pics of in Mashpee. There's nothing worth seeing there at all.
DeleteI like the art on the benches that rolls down onto the flooring (or decking). Perhaps those artist shanties need to have an artist in residence to open. . .they must be open sometimes, perhaps during festivals?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the shanties are open on weekends...maybe all week now that we are in our summer season. If it wasn't so crowded down there I'd check it out.
DeleteI wonder if any artists live in their shanty. They look like those tiny houses that are a hip new trend. (I prefer to be spoiled with room to breathe and stuff.)
ReplyDeleteI doubt anyone lives there. There are no facilities for anyone to use except the public comfort stations in the park.
DeleteOkay, I just have to move out your way that's all there is to it JoJo. I would be in heaven surrounded by all of that seafood and fish, and water and boats, and those shanties! I need to know what happens with those. Do the artist own them or rent them out and then set up shop at the seashore peddling their wares??? I need to know. And I need to come there. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteYou should come out here!!!! It's really pretty. Not as dramatic as the west though, but quaint. If I find myself forced into that part of Hyannis this summer I'll check out the shanties, but I avoid that village like the plague. Traffic, tourists, no place to park. I'm pretty sure they are rented to the artists.
