Windy Day at Scusset

The wacky weather out here continues.  Less than 48 hours before I took these pictures, it was -10, with a horrid wind chill around -27.  It was horrid.  That was Sunday the 14th.  By Tuesday the 16th, it was 50 with a warm wind, with rain in the forecast.  After I got home from errands, I checked the tide table and headed down to Scusset.  It was soooooo windy, I couldn't believe it.  I used my raincoat hood to keep my hair from flying around, but honestly it wasn't cold at all.

This was the first piece of glass I found and this made dealing with the wind completely worth it.

Then I found another of those flat backed glass blobbie/marbles.  Again, totally worth the trip.

This was the first time I've seen the breakwater covered with ice at the top.  It was pretty cool.

Seriously couldn't get enough of the icy jetties.

It was so dark to the east.  As I walked back towards the parking lot path, it started to rain a little.

White Cliffs all lit up in the sun

That's the biggest clam shell I've ever seen.  I've collected large ones before but this is HUGE. Whatever seagull got it had quite the meal.  Glass finds were modest but pretty decent.  Pretty rocks as well.

I made a Massachusetts from some of the glass.

It looks so deceiving until you see the ice on the jetties. I'd think it was a warm summer day, maybe a thunderstorm about to cool off the day but no! There's ice on those rocks. Brr! I love that green gem you found. So pretty!

    1. It really was warm though, for this time of year. Usually we have a cold wind on warm'ish days but this wind was like a chinook. I still had a lot of snow in my yard when I got up and it was almost gone by nightfall.

  2. That ice is really great. Nothing like a quiet day walking the beach with nobody in site!

    1. You got that right! I so rarely get the beach completely to myself!

  3. I like those artistic shots of the ice on top of the jetties. Some things are just photogenic if you are there at the right moment, and I like the deserted beach ('cept for the seagull). Bravo for you braving the windy day!

    1. That'd be cool for sure! But even when I was a kid and used to dream about finding treasure on the beach, I always wished it would be a whole pile of beach glass.

  6. Wow. Those are phenomenal shots of the snow/ice-capped rocks on the beach. I've never seen anything like it. Yeah, I need to leave CA more often.
    Have a great week, JoJo.

    1. Thanks Robyn! I never saw it before either. Someone on the Bourne Residents FB page had posted a pic of it the day we had the super cold weather, but when I went it was so warm that I never expected to see it still there.

  8. Hi JoJo,

It's amazing what you can discover at the beach. What you do with your finds shows such an artistic flair. Nicely done, wonderful photos and I hope you're having some decent weather. Heck, over here, it's almost tropical. LOL

    1. Thanks Gary! Actually we're in a stretch of stormy, but very mild, weather here too. So far this winter has been great. Some snow, but then fast melting between storms.
