Vintage Ornaments in Shadow Box

I have been dying to do this project with vintage ornaments inside of a large shadow box.  I first saw it on Pinterest a few years ago and it's languished in my 'to do' file till now.

Over the holidays, I won a couple of ebay auctions of antique Shiny Brites and other 1940s-50s era glass balls. Shadow boxes are very expensive, especially the size I wanted.  However, I had a 40% coupon for Michael's Crafts and got a wicked deal on the perfect one.  There was no way I was waiting till next fall to assemble it and I am so pleased with how perfectly it worked, and showcases the best ones.

I literally have no where to hang this, but I have till next December to figure that out.

    1. I'm already eyeing places where it might possibly work! It's so pretty that I'd love to leave it up year round.

  2. That is so cool! You could almost use it flat as a centerpiece with candles on top. it is very versatile!

    1. Thanks! I would feel kinda safer doing it that way....it's so heavy that I'm afraid it will come crashing down.

  3. If you want to hang a heavier item (I had an large antique beaded purse), then use two supporting hanger clips so weight is distributed. This works great for the shadow box I put the purse in and it's heavy as well. Love this craft item! Lucky you for winning some of the items!

    1. Thanks!! There are 2 hangar clips on the back anyway...I'm just worried about the nail/hook pulling out of the wall.

  6. Hi Jojo!
We use to use and still decorate a lot with glass ornaments. My parents in Kazakhstan also has a good collection of old glass balls, popsicles, pine cones etc.

I love your shadow box, it's a perfect way to showcase some unique items like the ones you have for example.Would love to see where you would place it :))
    Take care!

These remind me so much of the ornaments my parent's hung on their tree. Wow, such memories. You did a great job with it and you'll find the perfect spot!

    1. Thanks Elsie. I love them too and I have plenty leftover to do something else with them. The nostalgia of them really speaks to me.

  9. Hi JoJo,

Excuse me for my lengthy delay in arriving on your site. Yep, I've been signing autographs! :)

The things you can do with those nice, shiny balls. Just over ten months to think about it.
