Special Effects

At some point over the last couple of months, someone mentioned the Holga Filter Wheel for Canon camera special effects.  I ordered one and am currently experimenting with the two wheels.  Oh, just a note about the company.  I got the lens off Amazon because I didn't know I could purchase it directly from Holga.  I am having trouble figuring out how to focus, since the filter wheel attaches directly to the camera, not to the lens like most filters.  So I sent them an email to inquire how to focus.  They asked for my order number.  I told them I got it from Amazon.  They actually wrote back that they refuse to answer my question because I wasn't a customer.  Needless to say I wrote them back that I would be sure to trash their company and advise everyone to never buy from them. Talk about lack of customer service.

I like some of the effects, but others are a little weird and I have to figure out how best to use them.  I shot some of the Christmas lights but as I said, I don't know how to focus or how close/far I should stand.

This was using the flash and it gave it a kind of dreamy look.

I picked up some funky, psychedelic glasses at my fave store in Plymouth.  When you put them on, rainbows shoot out from every light source.  Decided to try it in front of my camera lens.

WOW!  This totally exceeded my expectations!

I actually think I like the glasses better than the filter wheel!

  1. I am sorry they would not answer your ?'s. It is not your fault you didn't know you could order direct. I hope you figure it out. Love the glasses. Happy New Year! Hugs, LJ

    1. Thanks Lady Jane! And I agree. I didn't know I could've bought it from them...and it was cheaper through them than amazon too. You would think that in the spirit of customer service, because I might buy direct from them in the future, they would've helped me. So believe me, I will be sure to tell people not to order from them.

  3. That really is disgusting service isn't it JoJo. Can nobody at Amazon help you. Very often Amazon will put you in touch with the supplier which was probably Holga anyway.

Spectacular effects, maybe you can submit them into a competition of some kind.

    1. Thanks Jo! I think I will reach out to amazon and see if they can help me out with the focus issue. I am shocked that Holga blew me off like that.

  4. Perhaps Holga considers Amazon a 'reseller' of their products. I tried to get instructions from a company about their product and was told to call the new off-shore company who handles inquiries. The off shore company in the Phillipines told me they had nothing on the product I needed instructions for. Customer service seems to be a thing of the past. Anyone who directs such inquiries to an off shore company (this was a GE product) doesn't care about their customer service. . .I wonder what help you will get from Amazon. . .

    1. I think you're right about customer service....the customer is no longer right. Well I sent an email to the vendor that sold through Amazon so we'll see if they get back to me. Hopefully they will.

  5. Hi JoJo,

What a total communications screw up you're experiencing. Neither company is very professional and your inquiry direct to the manufacturer should have gotten a better response.

Still, I'm now stoned staring at your photos....................

    1. LOL!!! Thanks Gary! It was a surprise to get brushed off like that. In this day of social media/internet, companies really shouldn't be pissing people off. I was browsing their products and thought about ordering something else but forget it.

    1. Thanks! Oh and I got an answer from the vendor on Amazon. One sentence. 'Yes it is attached to the camera body so no auto focus'. Well NO SHIT SHERLOCK. I figured that out. That wasn't my question.
