Day Trip to Truro & PTown

As it so happened, we had a run of absolutely gorgeous fall weather and we decided to take advantage of it and head up to Provincetown.  First, I wanted to finally stop in Truro and get a picture of the row of cottages that I've seen from the highway every time I've gone up there.  We got off the highway at the exit for Rte 6A, drove up a couple of miles where I was able to access the beach.  It was soooo nice out.

Looking across the bay at Provincetown.

These are Days' Cottages and they have a very interesting history.  HERE is their website; totally worth a look around.  They were built in about 1930 and each one bears the name of a flower.  There are about 22 in all.  I could not have asked for better conditions to get this photo. Perfect weather and no people.

They are now on the market for sale, but not as the whole colony.  You can buy individual cottages.

Hopped back in the car and headed up 6A which becomes Commercial Street as you get into PTown and that road is so narrow (and thankfully one way into town) that I kinda wished we'd gotten back on the highway.  We parked at MacMillan Wharf and started walking around town.

Started on the wharf first.

This whale's name is Bubbles.  How adorable is that?!

There were still quite a few people downtown considering it was an October weekday, but for the most part, it was very uncrowded by PTown's standards.

Of course we went in the famous Shop Therapy!  Wish that truck wasn't in the way.

Shop Therapy used to be in a different location in town but I don't remember where it was.  There was a huge mural on the side of it and I took a couple of pics in the early 90s when I was visiting.  I didn't realize that the mural was carefully cut up and placed on the side of the new location. Some of the photos I took of them aren't family-friendly for my blog.

Looks like my kinda town! I went down to the water last week too. The weather was absolutely perfect after that nor'easter blew through. I got some fantastic pictures I thought I could use for my book cover but the pictures were too small. Boo hoo. But, then again, I was using my cell. Your camera is awesome!!

    1. Thanks Elsie! I love my camera. It's an extension of me. lol You would love PTown, esp in the summer. It's very, very colourful. It's the premier LGBT vacation destination in New England so the people watching is top notch.

  3. Interesting stories about the cottages. What, exactly, is Shop Therapy? As usual I love the water pictures.

    1. Thanks! Shop Therapy is a funky store. They sell lots of tie dyes, India-Indian & Nepalese stuff & clothes, jewelry, bells, patches, incense....hippie type stuff. However, the second floor is only for over 18 as it's a sex shop. Russell & I went up there for a few chuckles at the stuff that's sold. However, when my stepdaughter & I visited the store, I stayed on the 1st floor, even though she's in her 20s. lol

    1. Indeed it is! If you look at a map of Cape Cod, which is shaped like a left arm flexing a muscle, PTown is at the top of the 'closed fist'. It's a little over an hour from where I live, which would be the 'shoulder' of the flexed arm.

  6. I love your pictures of beaches and harbor towns. I would give anything to live near a place like this. I would walk the beach every single day if I could. I would stare out to see and think about life. It would be glorious.

    1. I should take more advantage of my proximity to the beach but life keeps getting in the way. Or bad weather. Or tourists! lol But I could never live in a landlocked state. The Great Lakes are awesome but it's not like living near salt water.

  7. These photos are so good! You never cease to amaze me with your talents. I'm sure the weather was better than the 100 degree temperatures we've been having in Los Angeles.

    1. Thanks Lee! Oh yes, it was in the low 60s. Today's a little chilly but still shorts weather for me! It was 92 in San Francisco yesterday. That's crazy!
