The Public Gardens and EA Poe

One of the reasons I wanted to get to Boston ASAP this spring was that the Public Gardens were in full bloom and it truly is a sight to see.  I entered the Gardens through the Arlington Street gate at the George Washington statue.

That is one of the famous swanboats.  I did it once many years ago in the mid 80s and hope to again one of these days.

Next thing on the list was the new Edgar Allen Poe statue at the corner of Boylston and Charles Streets.  Although he is associated with Baltimore, he was born in Boston and apparently hated the city.  He is facing the direction of the home in which he was born, although I did not venture down to see it.

The Telltale Heart.

The Raven.

And some quotes embedded in the sidewalk as well.

Phew! What a tour!  Almost done!

    1. Thank you! Yes it's a gorgeous park. It's nice in summer and fall but spring it really pops with all the blossoms and flowers. I was so glad I went when I did!

  2. I love that Edgar Allen Poe statue, and I loved his writing when I discovered it in high school. It was so much more interesting than the dry English greats like Hardy, etc. He was along the lines in my mind of Oscar Wilde, an interesting personality and a writer who kept my attention. Thanks for sharing the images, JoJo. The park looks great, but my fave today is the Poe statue. He is a fave of mine. I do like the bridge shot, as well.

    1. Thank you! I, too, am a fan of Poe. We read a lot of his stuff in high school. It was just by chance that I saw an article about the unveiling of the new statue in Boston, sometime last year and I made a note to be sure to see it! The sculptor did a wonderful job with the flapping coat & books spilling out of his valise. And of course the raven and telltale heart!
