Cross Stitch, Colouring Book & Confirmed Nessie Sighting

Still not feeling the crafting bug beyond cross stitch lately, so that's what I'm doing.  I finished the Christmas one and it sold within minutes to a good friend of mine.

Also making headway on the commissioned Hummel cross stitch. I know they look weird without heads but I'm getting there.  Just found out she'll be on the Cape August 1-15, so this should be done by then, barring any unforeseen issues.  There really isn't too much backstitch, as compared to other designs, and that's the last step after the stitches are done.

And started a seashell kit I was given a couple of summers ago. My stitched one doesn't seem to be coming out quite like the picture and I am having trouble with the floss colours.  They are totally open to interpretation, so I think I messed up whatever is 'pale green grey' and 'medium turquoise' which means I have to rip out some stitches.  My shell also doesn't seem to be coming out shaped like the one in the picture.  Maybe it'll look better when I get it filled in.

I'm so pleased that more and more people are getting into colouring as adults.  I entered a giveaway for, and won, this Sugar Skulls book from the Coloring isn't just for kids Facebook page.

Plus she included a couple of extras.

Isn't this Nessie ladle the cutest thing EVER?!  The link went viral in January which was when I ordered it.  The company, which is either in China or Japan, was overwhelmed with orders so I didn't get it until a couple of weeks ago.  Of course now it's available on Amazon.com!  I should've just waited but that's OK.  Almost too cute to use though.  I just can't bring myself to submerge her into a pot of hot soup.

  1. I never got into counted cross stitch. It always seemed so tedious. I think your shell looks fine and would go with it. I sure wouldn't rip any of it out!

    1. I just love it. I'm addicted. I've done embroidery and needlepoint and cross stitch is by far my fave! Thanks....I'll have to see what happens when I get to the 'medium turquoise' part. Cause I do not have enough of the pale green grey to fill in all of the stitches on the chart that call for that colour. They only gave me one strand of it that colour.

  2. I love Nessie, wish I had seen it. Had to buy a new ladle a few months ago. A friend here does cross stitch and she had the most fabulous one of a little girl in her mobile home in the States. They sold the home and much to my annoyance, gave the little girl to the realtor who also liked it. I used to do embroidery as a youngster and my grandmother used to win prizes for hers.

    1. I tend to buy designs of dragons, celestial, holiday themed, etc. So the Hummel one has been a little tedious b/c I don't like the colours in the kit. I love all the pretty and bright designs.

  3. I feel a sense of nostalgia and calm when seeing your creations, JoJo. It must be so therapeutic for you, and you're so multi-talented. The only stitchery I ever got into was latch-hook.

    1. Thank you so much Robyn. It is therapeutic but I find myself getting too much in my head these days and overthinking current real life situations and instead of calming me, I end up having a panic attack. I never learned latch hook, I could not figure it out. I love it too!

  4. I have done cross stitch too, JoJo and your work is always well done. The Nessie soup spoon is unique and what a great idea to keep the legend alive. BTW I love colouring too but don't get to do much any more. Years ago in a rental house, I had a black and white wallpaper pattern on one wall in the bathroom that invited anyone who saw it to colour. It has a deco-ish style to it. It was fun.

    1. Thank you! Oh I would love to have seen that wallpaper. What a cool idea! I have the time to colour but I just don't seem to do it as much anymore. Mostly b/c I just don't have the room to spread out all my pens and pencils, in this recliner. Out west I had a reclining loveseat so I could put all my stuff next to me.

  5. Hey JoJo,

Taking just enough time away from "Farcebook" to leave a comment.

You are one heck of a talented cross stitcher! I wish I could stitch but I ended up getting cross!

Nice Nessie, still Ogopogo could kick Nessie's Scottish butt, eh! LOL

    1. Thank you so much! I don't know....has Ogopogo been seen as many times as Nessie has? There's supposedly one in Lake Champlain, 'Champ'. And then Tahoe Tessie, although I don't think there have been any real sightings of that one!

    1. Thanks Maureen! It's all I want to do anymore. I still haven't used Nessie for her intended purpose...I just can't bring myself to plunge her into hot soup!

  8. Your cross stitch looks awesome!!! Love that little finish :D
The hummels are really coming along, lots of progress!
Hope your shell colors work out - if it's an older kit and you can't contact the company to get more floss, then I would take the one strand to a craft store and match it to a skein of DMC. 50 cents to save a headache, lol! JoAnns, Micheals, and Hobby Lobby all have DMC. So do most WalMarts.
I think the picture of the shell is stitched on linen, and your shell is stitched on Aida. I THINK. That will make the linen one look taller and thinner - just the way linen works, as it is not really an 'evenweave' fabric. The strands are thicker one way. I think yours looks more natural.
LOVE the coloring sheets! I have to find that facebook page!
And OMG!!! NESSIE!!! I love Nessie, I NEED that ladle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Thank you Tama!! I think I have the right DMC number to look for but I will take it with me next time. I erred in not taking it b/c I thought I could match it by eye. Walmart doesn't have it, I already looked. It wouldn't surprise me if the shell pic was on linen. The floss colours do not match the photo at all. Not even close. I think you can get the ladle on Amazon now; I ordered it from Asia. lol The facebook page is called 'coloring isn't just for kids'.
