3:00 AM Musings of the Sick

Well what I thought were bad allergies turned out to be a bad cold instead.  I feel like I've been hit by a truck.  And of course when I should be resting, I can't because I'm so uncomfortable and keep waking up to sneeze a half dozen times, pee, use my inhaler, blow my nose, cough and then groan piteously because my ribs hurt so bad from coughing.  In a nutshell:  I'm a mess.  I went to bed at 9:00 to try and get a head start on sleep b/f the hubs came to bed.  He's been snoring so bad that I end up on our very old and uncomfortable couch for a few hours till the pain in my back, hips and shoulders force me back to the bedroom.  But instead he did a turn on the couch all night so that I could get some rest in the bedroom, bless his heart.

I loaded up on cold meds and went to bed where I fell asleep till 11:30, when I had to get up to pee. Then I laid there for what seemed like just a few minutes, tossing and turning, and couldn't believe I had to get up to use the bathroom again.  I looked at the clock and it was 1:20.  Now I have zero memory of falling asleep, and it certainly didn't feel like I had gone back to sleep.  I didn't have the sense of waking up from dreaming or anything.

I took Pepper out and went back to bed where I lay there wide awake....random & feverish thoughts running through my head:

Breath right strips just do not work.....can I take more advil and sudafed yet?.....How can I be this sick and not run a fever? I'm the only person I know that gets sick without a fever...I need to get these comforters washed....God I feel like shit....Someone please cut my head off...Sagan needs to go to the groomer next week.....I wonder if Walmart has air conditioners in yet....Ow my ribs!....This cold gel mask feels pretty good on my face....Dammit the velcro is stuck in my hair...What's that pain? Am I having a heart attack?....I can hear myself wheezing I need to take my earplugs out....I can hear Russell snoring I need to put my earplugs back in....Should I let Pepper out again?  Did she pee on the kitchen floor?...If I fill in the white on that cross stitch I can finally work on the basket part of the design....Why is this cough drop making my mouth itch and burn?....Oh god no not another cough...Dammitall I have to pee AGAIN....I don't even want to know what time it is....If I fall asleep now maybe I'll get 4 more hours of rest...I feel so guilty that he's on the couch the poor man....His family is so nice, hope everyone got home to Maine OK....2 firecrackers stuffed up each nostril, that's all I ask....Why didn't I buy fake eggs so I could do that galaxy egg tutorial? Now it's too late....I need to coordinate a time to pick up Val on Monday....Maybe I should read but my glasses and book are in the livingroom....Wonder if anyone's up on Facebook? I don't feel like getting up and getting my computer...Crap my phone's in the livingroom too....That damn thing better boot up tomorrow....God I feel like shit. Just kill me, kill me now....Heeyyyyy Macarena!

Poor you! I seriously feel your pain. I came back from Michigan with a hideous cold and then got some news that just pissed me off - I'm still pissed - and I haven't been to bed yet! I am so ready to get back on a plane and head back and out of Idaho forever. That's pretty much been my weekend in a nutshell, or at least my Sat. and Sun. Totally blows. On the plus side I am going to the doc today to see what gives...

    1. Oh no! Based on the comments I've gotten on FB and my newsfeed, sounds like everyone is coming down with something. I'm sorry you are sick and got bad news. Val ended up sick too so she and I can't get together today which is probably for the best since I should stay home in bed. If I don't get any better I'll have to hit the urgent care tomorrow. Feel better Mimi!!!!

    1. The damn thoughts keep me from falling asleep though. Why do I have to overthink everything?!

  3. Ouch! That sounds like a particularly terrible cold. The up-in-the-middle-of-the-night, HI-I-WANT-TO-BREATHE-NOW kind always are, but with coughing too.. blech.

Hope you rapidly get better. Breathing is really nice -- you'll enjoy it when you get to try it.

    1. Thank you! Last night was even worse than the night before, which is what this post is written about. Unfortunately I was too sick with coughing my brains out to think about anything last night except whether or not I should drag my sick self to the ER.

  4. Colds and allergies are rough. AND not being able to breathe is the pits, but worse is not being able to sleep. Get well!

  5. Today I had to cancel all the appointments this week because I have the dry, hacky, cough/cold that has been making the rounds, which my husband had last week. So, I feel your pain. Also had to cancel Easter dinner with my son and family--all the good things. I know we will all get better.

    1. I can't even visit my MIL who is having some health issues, b/c I don't want to spread my germs around. And my mom relies on me each week and I doubt I'll be able to go over there either. Calgon take me away, Hope you feel better too!

  6. Sorry about the illness. I completely understand the feeling as I've been there more often than I've liked. Fortunately this year any prolonged illness has been staved off for me and I hope it stays that way.

    Get better soon!

    1. Thanks Lee. I consider myself relatively healthy but I've been knocked on my butt twice in the last 2 months with a bad cold.

  7. Oh JoJo, sorry you're suffering . I hope it goes away quickly and that you feel better pronto. It's nice that you've got such a great hubs, so sweet of him to sleep on the couch so that you could get some rest.
Strange how our minds can wander and odd how it always wants to roam when we desperately need and want to sleep. Take care and hope you're feeling better real soon.

    1. I really need to order a convert-a-couch ASAP so that we can actually have comfort in the livingroom. This couch has got to go. I end up doing a few hours on it every night that he's home. We've tried everything for the snoring to no avail.

  8. I know I said it on facebook, but catching up on blog visiting so thought I would say it here too, if you're still rough tomorrow get to the doctors. Crackling and wheezing sounds aren't good! And sleep on the settee - don't try the bed, unless you've got one of those V shaped pillows it's impossible to sleep upright xx

    1. There's no way I can sleep on my recliner. I am a side sleeper and I just can't sleep on my back no matter what. That's why the couch is such a killer for me b/c there's not enough room to get comfy on my sides so I am on my back and then my whole right side goes numb. My lungs feel way better today, not as much crackling or the urge to cough with every breath. I hope I'm getting better.

  9. Sounds like he needs a CPAP machine. He is probably suffering from sleep apnea which is why he is snoring.

    1. I don't think it's that. He's on some medication that dries him out. Snoring wasn't a problem till he started these pills. He's not home long enough to go to a sleep clinic and I don't know how anyone can sleep with those CPAP things on their faces. I couldn't do it....that sucker would get ripped off my face and flung across the room. I could never ask him to do that. I just ordered a new convert-a-couch sleeper that should be here by the end of the week. It's like a nicer version of a futon and has more room to stretch out. This should solve the problem.

    2. I have one and don't have a problem with it. Tina had one and found it difficult to adapt to. Girlfriend of mine has been using one for years.

    3. I just toss and turn way too much to ever be able to wear one. Plus claustrophobia would kick in. I don't even like wearing a surgical or dust mask.

  12. Well that tired me out just reading it. Good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery. Sleep and fluids is about all you can do to battle it if there's no infection. Hang in there.

  16. I was hoping you were feeling better. I am no better and now trying all the get well things I can think of--mega dose of Vitamin C, gargling with really hot water, sauna. Others in the blog world are sick as well as I read their posts for the A-Z.

  17. yikes! that so does not sound like fun!! I've been there, not often, but when I am this sick you do just struggle with trying to sleep even tho that is what your body needs. Hope the meds help and you're feeling better soon!

  18. There have been some brutal cold-like infections around this year. I don't usually get colds but I was laid up for a week in Feb. and had recurrences for a few weeks after. So I fully understand and sympathise this year (normally I'm "People make such a fuss over a simple cold" but not this year!) and I hope you are feeling better.
