Thanksgiving Weekend

I am so sick of eating.  And I really didn't eat all that much this weekend but still.....so much food in the fridge, so many leftovers....so much is gonna end up in the garbage.  We did a 12 lb turkey, stuffing, mashed taters, corn, cranberry sauce & gravy, PLUS a prime rib.  And we had Dutch apple pie for dessert.  Of course we are all about speed and ease, so everything comes out of boxes, cans and jars.  The pie was from the grocery store bakery.

My stepkids came over at 2 to dine with us and we were all stuffed to the gills.  They still had their mom's to go to later on for 2nd dinner!  They are lucky they are so young and slim!!!

My bday was the same day and it was mellow.  I felt the love on Facebook with all the greetings and messages.  That was so nice.  The next day, my mom took us to lunch, but not before she gave me this gift to usher in my 50th year.  A cane with horn and rearview mirror.

Stuffed from lunch, I wasn't hungry again till well after 8 pm so I made myself a very small turkey sammich. Turned around to find myself pinned against the counter once again by my silly boopies.  Sagan is so focused on the plate with my sammich in this pic.

"But...but...but....you haz turkey sammich and we haz NO turkey sammich."  Poor, poor starving, unspoiled furkids.  Don't worry....they both got a little bit of turkey after I took this picture!

Gorgeous moon.

Yesterday, I made this 'Christmas ball chandelier' that I saw on Pinterest.  Came out pretty good.  I think it needs some more balls and the next one I make will have more; I got tired of tying fishing line.  This was, as always, just a prototype.

It's started to get super icy cold again.  Makes for pretty pictures but taking the dogs out after dark really sucks, despite bundling up, esp. at 3 AM.

Couldn't resist taking another one of these last night when the sun went down.  We only get to see it like this from late November to early January.  Would like to get another snow pic of it but I really don't want any snow yet!!!

I've got all my Christmas cards done and ready to go, and most of my shopping is done, not that I had that much to do anyway.  I don't do Black Friday and I find people's shopping conduct sickening. I called this 'The Season of Brotherly Shove.'  Online, small business and craft fair shopping is the only way to go.

It's time to take down the Thanksgiving decorations and put up the Christmas ones!  I will be working on that today and that usually takes quite a few hours.  I also have one more craft show this coming Saturday at the Sandwich Legion.

How was everyone's Thanksgiving weekends?  Did you do the Black Friday insanity?  Sick of turkey yet?

  1. No, I would love a turkey sammich about now. Have to wait til Christmas. You sure had a lot of food on your table. Sounds like you did a good Thanksgiving though. I like your Christmas Ball chandelier and love the frost pictures. Why do you have to take the dogs out at 3 a.m.?

    1. Well it's really just Pepper. She's 14 or nearly 14 and can't hold it all night. If I don't take her out at least once...sometimes twice depending what time I've gone to bed...I will wake up to a puddle in the kitchen or rug.

Yes, we had a lot of food. The prime rib was mainly for Russell. But we had 3 kids over so had to make sure we had a lot of food.

    Nice reminder from your mother...

    1. Oh yes, poor poor starving dogs. Nary a scrap thrown their way. No choice of beds or furniture on which to stretch out. Poor poor ickle boos. lolol As for the cane I believe my reaction was, 'har dee har har....at least I can use the horn to get Russell's attention when he's watching TV and not listening to me'. hahaha

  3. LOVE the Christmas chandelier; and perhaps you should look on Thanksgiving as a 'warm up' for Holiday eating ;0) The UK doesn't 'do' Black Friday, but this year we did. I've never seen such an unedifying spectacle as hoards of humanity fighting over a damn TV set, as if it was the last cup of water left on the planet. Sometimes, I'm ashamed to belong to the same species as those idiots.

    1. Isn't it sick? The sadly ironic thing is that Americans sit down to a big feast and are thankful for what they have, then they go out and act like jackasses to buy more stuff. Some people were camping out for days to be first in line. Ridiculous. I used to go to the antique stores on Black Friday b/c they were deserted and quite pleasant. Plus they were locally owned, not some giant megachain store.

  4. Lovely photos! We didn't have leftovers since we were the visitors at my in-laws' house.

    I really need a pet.

I wish I'm as crafty as you. I can only decorate with washi tape and stickers. LOL.

Happy Belated Birthday, JoJo. I'm with you on Thanksgiving dinner being one of ease. I make the stuffing out of box, cranberry out of a can, and a precooked turkey. I always fear I'll wake up with a migraine and won't be able to pull it all together unless it's mostly done for me. This year, Peanut was a big help in the kitchen. Who knows, maybe next year she'll do the whole thing. Bwahahaha

    1. Thanks! I remember years ago at work, my female boss was lamenting on how much work she had to do for Thanksgiving - brine the turkey, leave the bread out to get stale for stuffing, etc. She turns to me and says, 'Joanne, how do you make your gravy?" Without missing a beat I said, 'I open up a jar of Franco American and dump it in a saucepan.' The look of horror on her face was priceless. My male boss literally choked on his sandwich from laughing so hard. One of my fave memories. lol

  6. Oh my goodness, the overeating was ridiculous. I'm still hungry. Very. funny cane.

Cold here too, but for some reason Millie believes she is a Husky or Samoyed breed and loves the cold.

    1. It was warm enough for shorts the other day and now it's cold and raw. My fridge is finally empty of leftovers. I didn't think that would happen.

  8. I don't think I would accept a gift like that with too much humor. Might have to ram it up the gift giver's ass. Just sayin. HA HA HA. But it sounds like you had a great holiday weekend filled with family and lots of food and that is just as it should be. Glad you had a Happy Birthday!! ♥

    1. Oh yeah I was like, 'funny ha ha mom'. lol Like I said, I can use it to get Russell's attention since he gets so engrossed in TV that he hears nothing else.

  9. Your Christmas Ball chandelier and crafts are beautiful. I had a great Thanksgiving, and we celebrated my birthday too. So on top of pie, I had chocolate cake. Needless to say, I skipped supper that night because I could barely breathe, so stepping more food in my mouth wouldn't work. Of course, the next morning I had pumpkin pie for breakfast. :-)

    1. LOL! Happy birthday to you Debi! And thank you for your kind words on my crafts. :) Yeah I finally finished or threw out all our leftovers too. No idea what to do for Christmas; I am kinda burned on turkey.

  10. My new sweetie ("George") and I went to Tahoe. There was snow - beautiful, white, soft, snow. It wasn't pouring out of the sky, and there was no rain or hail, so it was perfect. I'll post some pictures soon - hopefully. I think I gained at least 5 pounds over the weekend. (I'm only 4'8", so that's a BIG gain). It was worth it, though. =)

    Be well, JoJo. xo
