Have I mentioned how much I love living here in BBay??? I like it way better over here than I thought I would when I was still in Washington and rented the house. It was the best decision ever, although the decision was made based upon dog-friendly housing availability.
These two businesses recently opened, side by side. Canal Creamery, an ice cream shop, and Jake's Pizza. While it was tempting to stop at both places, I opted to get a slice at Jake's because we're looking for a new pizza place since our old standbys are starting to suck.
I got a slice of cheese, which is the only kind of pizza I like. The crust is delicious. So crispy the way I like it! This is going to be our new go-to place for pizza!!!!! Not only that, Jake is a very personable guy, his grandmother was hanging out there with him and she was very nice, and the young lady who works for him was also very friendly. What more can you ask for?
Then I continued to hit up some more of my fave places. Loving that 60s or 70s era design on the 7up sign.
I love the center picture better than the frame. I wish I could paint because I'd love to do something like this.
Love the bunting. You don't see this out west at all. July 4th is a totally different holiday out there. It has way more meaning here because all of the Independence Day history took place here.
I could have stood...or sat....on this hill above the beach for the rest of the afternoon. The breeze was so refreshing and constant that the sun never felt too hot and uncomfortable.
I watched this guy launch his boat too.
But it was getting on to 2:40, and I'd left the house at 12:15, so I headed home to shower and kick back the rest of the day.

These were my humble purchases for the day. That's a 45 of Gilbert O'Sullivan's 'Get Down'. Some old jewelry I can use for parts, postcards, the pengie for Val and a bar of lavender soap made on Cape Cod.
Do you still have 45 player? I used to have "Get Down" years ago, think I recorded it onto a CD. We had a boat like the one being launched when we were in NC. Not pizza people in our home. Ice cream either although I do enjoy one now and again.
ReplyDeleteI have a turntable, yes. And a 45 hole adapter too! I still make mix tapes. I have no idea how to use itunes, an ipod or how to burn stuff to CDs. I kick it old school! Pizza and ice cream are two of my main weaknesses!
DeleteYou've made me realize I've never experienced a 4th anywhere but on the West Coast. I never even heard the word bunting. You all do it right over there.

Oh believe me, I'll be back at that creamery soon for an oreo cookie cone!!! Coming from here first, and then living out west, the differences really stood out to me. Out there it's about having a day off, grilling and blowing shit up, and the Declaration of Independence/Revolutionary War is like an 'oh yeah, that too' secondary thought.

DeleteWe used to have takeout pizza every second Friday or so... then the place at the top of the street changed owners and the quality really went downhill. Now we get pizza to cook at home from the grocery store. About a third of the price, always hot, only takes 15 minutes and is healthier for us! So I guess it was a good thing after all...

DeleteI haven't been impressed w/ grocery store pizza. The dough is never crispy enough and OMG so much salt. It really vexes me when restaurants start out great then start cutting corners to increase their profit margin. Since I moved here in 2011, we've jettisoned at least 6 pizza places that started off great and went downhill.
I can't imagine a more perfect combination that a pizza and ice-cream place being right next door to each other. Having Italian heritage I am so fussy about pizza, it's great when you find a good one :)

I, too, am fussy about pizza since I am also Italian. Of course the best I ever had was in NY and NJ. The west coast never gets it right because they are too busy putting weird crap on it like alfredo sauce and chicken. Deep dish is gross, and don't get me started on the chains like Dominos and Little Caesars.

DeleteI don't like complicated pizzas. I settle for lots of Pepperoni and Cheese. You are in a beautiful area, definitely. I wish I could walk outside and find wonderful things to photograph, too. What a very nice looking body of water! I so want to be in a pool or a beach right now. It's too hot in the Bay Area.

Thanks!!! Yeah I only like cheese, and occasionally pepperoni but that's a little too spicy for me. You live in such a pretty region....when it cools off, take a walk around your neighbourhood. I'm sure there are lots of things to see!

ReplyDeleteI have never understood the logic of eateries that think they have to cheapen their food just to make a profit. We've had pizza places go downhill also because they started cutting corners and then the food suffered. I'd much rather pay a little more and continue to receive the same fine quality and good taste than pay the same amount for an inferior product. To me it just does not make sense.
With your crafty talents JoJo, I bet you could do a painting similar to that moon and dolphin one.
Russell has said the same thing you just did, almost word for word too. The last place we ordered from, which was our go-to, was substandard. We were really pissed. We'd gotten a lot of food and it was over $50.
DeleteI wish I could paint but I am no good at it. I can't draw or sketch. There are some galleries offering a one night painting class but they are kinda far from me.
South Carolina is BIG on the bunting, for Flag Day too, not surprisingly. I agree that in California, July 4th was mostly just a day off to party... very different in the East.
